Now before all the "your tactics suck" replies come in from those who have downloaded someone elses tactic and won the league with Man Utd (FM Gods that you are) .. let me explain ..
I've given it some welly the last couple of days with 3 different teams - Boro, Leeds, Scarborough - not the greatest to work with, I accept (maybe other than S'boro) and have spent quite a few hours tinkering away - mainly implementing WWFans thoughts and with what Cleon has gone on about - but you still get unstuck with the same rubbish time and time again that you can do nothing about ..
A couple of things that got me earlier with Leeds - had a 16 finishing, 15 Composure striker from Ecuador, the tactic would get him clear time and time again and have him bear down on goal - what would he do? Blaze them over the bar more often than not or just dribble them to the keeper who was taking a rest and smoking a ciggie on one of the posts ..
One game stuck out : 6 times he picked up the ball, dribbled past the defence, 1 on 1 with the keeper (reflexes 7, one on ones 8) and the keeper 'won' every time .... last minute, with their only chance, the oppostions center back (3 dribbling, 3 finishing, 6 composure) after a corner, goes past 4 players like Christiano Ronaldo and cooly slides the ball into the corner of the net past my 20 reflexes, 18 one on ones keeper to give them a 1-0 win despite me in total having 21 shots on goal with 14 on rarget .. I've said it before - this happens way too much in FM and frankly ****es you off no end when it goes on game after game ..
Now, just played a game with Scarborough vs the 2nd bottom of the table (S'Boro start with -10 pts) .. exactly the same thing - A striker (on loan from Leeds) with 14 comp and 15 finishing has chance after chance (mainly 1 on 1s) Vs a fat bloke in goal who was dragged out of the pub .. result, again, despite peppering the oppo's goal - I lose 3-0 from 3 shots on goal with only 2 on target (go figure - and by a team I was 1-10 to beat pre-match).
.. and people try and insult our intelligence by saying there isn't a hidden dificulty level vs human controlled players ..
Anyways, my question is : I've tried lowering the tempo so they arn't snatching the shots, I've tried lowering the CF so they aren't trying to set themselves up with overhead kicks but absolutely nothing works - despite the domination, despite the number of one on ones, despite dropping strikers, despite playing them in the reserves or against the kids to get their confidence up - how the hell do I get them scoring .. ?
You need to look at things a little more holistically rather than focusing on the problems one player is having. For example, aganst a team your are 1-10 to beat are you:
1: getting your FBs involved in the attack as much as possible (FWRs often) to open more space for the front men
2: closing down their FCs and wingers (also midfield, DCs, FBs and GK with those odds) heavily to win the ball back quickly and hurry the opposition into mistakes (Hint: opposition instructions are useful here tight/cd always for most players, plus wrong foot for wide players)
3: using a link man (TM or PM) to act as a fulcrum for the team
4: have the right instructions individually (i.e. you aren't playing lots of TBs with a plyaer who can't pass, thus forcing the FC to contol difficult balls and do too much himself)
Looking at all those instructions will help rather than just the striker settings.
Why are you writing about FBs joining the attack when the obvious issue is Thunda's striker getting beaten 1 on 1 against the keeper. Full backs have nothing to do with his problems.

Yes they do. That is the holistic view versus the blinkered view. We have to take into account the inadequecies of the 2d representation in terms of showing us exactly how the FC is missing i.e. how easy the chance actually is or has the ball overrun him, he overrrun the ball etc. In terms of the original post, it seems probable that he is having to create the chances himself i.e beat a man, getting on the end of a huried ball in, working in a compact space. The other instructions I have suggested will allow him more and better chances and give him more space in which to operate and thus make better use of his attributes. Winning th ball quickly and regularly will enable him to get into better positions with less chance of an opponent marking him out of the game due to a slow build up.
If you think my suggestions irrelevant then you obviously struggle to see the bigger picture. One man (with attributes above divisional average) failing is related to other issues. Deal with those issues and he won't fail.
Yeah .. most of that makes sense WW as usual .. its just figuring out what it is ..
The thing I find is that no matter how i set out to play, they always just play the same way - generally hopeless balls to the strikers or into the channels .. I'll watch opposition teams in the conference ping the ball around in my half of the pitch, pulling my defenders every which way before they slide a simple 5 yard pass to a striker who's in acres of space - its just like watching Brazilian conference team with them - for my teams (even with setting things up exactly how you suggest in your big thread - rule of 1 etc) its just like watching Wimbledon of old all the time despite not having people on too much direct passing ..
I'd love to bring my wingers more into play - I have one on the left who is quality for the division but no matter how I set things out, they just won't pass it out to him - they'd just rather bang the ball everywhere I try to get them NOT to .. I'm almost at the stage of abandoning wingers completely as there is no point them being on the pitch most of the time.
try using the set to drop down menu for each player, and use the first for defending
first notch of; defensive, slow tempo, short passing etc and opposite for attacking
Another two issues, which may or may not be related would be his technique stat and any PPMs he has or doesn't have with regards to one-on-ones.
I have to agree with wwfan. If the guy isn't finishing off the one-on-ones that you're creating, the best thing to do is either sign a player who can finish them, or, more practically, create a tactic which creates fewer of them. Brining the full backs and wingers into play is an solution I hadn't thought about, but it makes logical sense.
