I am playing Accrington Stanley (always looking for a chalenge) and took them from L2 to CH where I really started to struggle. I would always win 10 straight to lose the next 10, I would always concede deep passes to streaking strikers late in games and my guys couldnt hit a barn door.
So I came to the Tactics forum and my eyes were opened by the sage wisdom of such wise men as Cleon, wwfan, Rashidi and many many more.
SO a big thanks to you all!!!!!!!!
After dropping my Dline to 6 and setting individual mentalities closer together to make more of a team bond, adjusting my tempo and width as needed and I guess most importantly slowing the game down and taking notice of actually what was happening.
I am now 9th in the PL (with little Accrington!!) I still crack up at my 13,000 attendances :-) However after just beating Liverpool 5-0 at home things are bright for my little team of giant killers.
lol can u post precisely what u do? i dont want to copy u just adapt ur ideas! i use short and slow etc just i cant beat most of the big teams convincingly when i know its possible!
Well the key is to read some of the threads in the Tactics Bible. Thats what I did and turned my team from fringe relegation to now 7th in PL (just beat MU 3-1 at home)
I play a 4-2-2 Diamond (so really a 4-1-2-1-2) I have long farrows on my wingers and short barrows on my fullbacks.
I play a flat back 4 with 6 mentalities, my DMC is 8, my Wingers are 12 and my AMC is 13 I think, my Targetman (good in the air) is 14 and my pacey striker is 17.
I have individual passing instructions as per wwfans basic surmise that base it all around your MC (or AMC in this case). So my FC's have passing on around 8, my AMC is 11, My wingers are 11, my DMC is 13, and my back 4 use direct passing of 14+
CD is low for the back 4 (5 I think) and high for basically everyone else (12+)
CF is low for the back 4 (1) and increases slowly as we progress up the pitch, I think AMC is around 10 and FC's around 13
I have tight marking on but turn it off on my back 4, I have found this essential to keep a solid D line. My D Line while I am on it is set to 6 which is pretty deep.
I use a Targetman and play to his head cause he is dominant in the air, he flicks on to my pacey striker quite a bit (whom I have set a little higher up the pitch) and they hook up well together.
I dont use a playmaker. I used to but found once I turned it off I had way more chances and way less turnovers with idiots trying to force the ball to my marked AMC.
I have tempo on fast and width on wide but I play a defensive team mentality. I rarely change this unless a team is hard to break down. As I am a small time team most teams attack me at this point and so it is working a treat...as I get more successful though I may need to slow things down as the AI unleashes the dreaded "park the bus in front of goal" tactic.
Basically the MAIN POINT I found which helped was slow the game down...watch the game closely...and make changes as you need. Do not let the AI get on top of you, if its happening make a change in tempo, width and team mentality.
Hope this helps..I got it all from the minds of such sage men as wwfan and Cleon.
I can not empahsise enough, go to the tactics bible sticky and actually understand what makes your team work.
