With all due respect to millie i wouldnt say third with arsenal was that great, certainly not an over acheivment.
I always find this difficult, its hard to get the right balance, and find it very much depends on your team.
I dont actualy like counter attack, and try not to do it, unless im playing with a small team and going direct, in that case i play very deep, and on the higher side of defencive mentality wise. I dont go too narrow, as i want them to hit the ball down the wings, and i focus passing down the flanks.
Someone like arsenal, or if im managing a big club, i like to play short passing, and attacking football, so i would adjust to a normall mentality away, with a high defencive line, off side trap on and press a lot.
a lot comes down to getting the balance right for your players i find, i would always get players in that work hard and with pace, as that allows me a high defencive line (so if its broken, theres a good chance my defenders can get back) and ensures the players close down.
Theres lots of theroys here, but i tend to stay away from the more mathamaticle ones, as it over complicates it for me.
