In real life, Margate Football club are struggling. Having failed to meet league standards regarding stadiums, they were relegated from the Conference National last season, and this season were again relegated out of the Conference South.
That's the history, my job was to exact revenge on real life and give Margate Football Club a new future in FM2005.
Quick update through the years: Season 04/05. - Conference South
Won the Conference South.
Season 05/06. - Conference National
Board expect a struggle against relegation, Manager provides a safe mid table position. Made some good signings, especially a certain SC who was released from a top flight club. he's only young, but shows promise!!
Knocked out of FA trophy in the semi finals by a stinking non-league team!! wasn't happy!!
Season 06/07. - Conference National
Manage to finish somewhere between play-off zone and mid-table. Star SC signing from last year really having a big impact on the team and his value is rising fast. Major highlight was winning the FA trophy after getting so close last season.
Season 07/08. - Conference National
Last seasons success goes to the boards head and they now expect a play-off place, but all my hard work over the last couple of seaons has paid off. I spent the entire season in a tight promotion battle, and clinch it on the last day of the season by just a single point. Managed to also retain the FA trophy with relative ease.
My Star striker has been attracting the attention of the media and other managers practically every other week. I'm trying desperatly hard to hang on to him, but he's got a £400,000 release clause, and the offers are starting to get close to that. Ended up selling him to a league 1 team. £400,000 is a very tidy sum for Margate Football Club.
Season 08/09 - League 2
So we're up to the current day.. more or less. For my first season in League 2 the board expect a struggle against relegation. The manager is overly confident.
"I've heard it all before, I won't be struggling, my team topped the table last season, we'll manage a mid table position."
15 games into the league and Margate are 22nd in the league. Not a single win in the last 12 matches and the pressure is really on. Our goalkeeper really shouldn't be playing in League 2, and we're seriously missing that star striker a lot more than we're using the £400 grand that's sitting in the bank.
Due to the abysmal performances, Attendances are almost back down to what they were in the Conference South.
In an attempt to raise spirits, Margate Manager declares interest in a MC who is currently unsettled at another League 2 club. Margate manager is then laughed at by the media for being interested in someone who would clearly never play at Hartsdown Park. Margate manager then sit in the corner and sobs for a while.
