I have started a new game with 5.05 patch, and started as Barrow in Conference North. Finances not too bad, they even gave me £8,000 transfer budget! Mind you, as you will all probably be aware I haven't found it that easy to spend it - I still have £7,000 left!!Before the start of the season, I only managed to bring in one player, a SC. The squad was wafer thin though, and in my last pre-season game I only had 4 subs I could use.
Obviously I needed bodies, but even loan deals from League 2 were falling through - the clubs accepted but the players did not want to come to Barrow. Eventually I managed to get a AMC from Gravesend reserves. As the season started, results were mixed, as I was still working out what my best tactics should be. I managed to get through to the first round of the FA Cup, and it was here were my inexperience showed. I had a game on the Tuesday before and my captain and inspirational CB was one yellow card away from a suspension, and thats right, I played him and he got a yellow card - suspended for my big cup game. Also my striker that I bought picked up an injury, meaning I had to go into the game without my star defender and star striker. I was at home to Port Vale of League One, and after 10 minutes I was 2-0 down. I managed to steam the tide and it finished 2-1 following a last minute penalty. At least a healthy 3500 came to watch, which helped the bank balance.
Unfortunately the defeat affected morale and I lost the next 3. Action was needed and I brought in 2 new midfielders with good aggression, a 19 year old on a free, and a DMC on loan from Boston, and changed my tactics, filling up the midfield. It seemed to work, and after the Christmas programme, I am 3rd, 4 points behind the leaders Nuneaton..
