Default Falkirk bound

E-I-E-I-O up the border to Falkirk we go....but not to manage falkirk, or even stenhousemuir but yes, maybe the worst football team in context manageable in football manager 2005 East Stirlingshire.

So after resisting the temptation for so long I have decided to post my long and arduous East Stirling career. Now in the year 2023, I have had many ups and downs and I hope you enjoy the story

PS it’s a shame I can’t post the names of successful players that have been integral to this club, even the regens  but anyway I’ll describe them as best as I can.

[boring details - huge db, all Scot leagues loaded 5.0.5 used]

Season 04/05

TRANSFERS

IN

Well in my first season I really took advantage of the scouts whilst playing a pre season friendly abroad in Estonia. I played TVMK II (reserves in a friendly) and 4 of their players instantly came to my attention…

15 Year old ‘Estonian Super Baby’ (as they become to be known in the ‘future’) no#1 (AMR)
16 Year old ‘Estonian Super Baby’ no#2 (AMC)
16 Year old ‘Estonian Super Baby’ no#3(DL)
16 Year old ‘Estonian Super Baby’ no#4(ML)

I also brought in a few youngsters from the lower leagues of England on frees as well a certain cry baby from Italia 90 in a player/coach capacity.

OUT

Sadly, a new manager means new team so a lot of the youth team, that I wanted to keep, as well as home grown talent in first team had to go to allow way for the new era.

In all 12 players out and 11 in. The wage budget, iirc, wasn’t too brilliant and no player was on over £55 a week.

SEASONAL SUMMARY

SCOTTISH FA CUP

Lost out embarrassingly against Annon Athletic in first round. Probably from the highlands league but clearly I underestimated them and it all went wrong.

SCOTTISH CHALLENGE CUP

Got lucky by being drawn into the second round of this brilliantc cup which has no money inscentive but gives the lower league clubs a chance to play a final at an spl ground (usually hibs’) and win a bit of silverware. Sadly I lost to Eats Fife 4-0 at firs park.

SCOTTISH LEAGUE CUP

Beat my future rivals, as time would go on due to feuds with managers, refs descisions, last minute goals/own goals, red cards etc Queens Park at hampden park  yes hampden !!! Lost to SPL team Dundee away 2-0 which was a great experience to play in front of a larger crowd than normal.

SCOTTISH THIRD DIVISION

Finished a solid 6th in my first season. Collected a nice sum of 34 points and maybe a promotion push is on the cards next season after seeing the mighty Gretna and Peterhead storm to promotion by over 30 points clear themselves. Average attendance was 1400- the second highest in the league obviously my arrival boosted morale in Falkirk

In other news Falkirk overshadowed my achievements by firstly claiming the Scottish challenge cup and then storming themselves to promotion to the big money spl.

You reckon East Stirlingshire would play a friendly in Estonia or send scouts there in real life?

Stranger things have happened. Someone must have sold a lot of raffle tickets (and not paid out the prizes) to pay for that

Absolutely not.

East Stirlingshire pay their top players £10 a week, they are genuinely completely borasic.

No way could they tour Estonia, No way would foreign players immigrate to Falkirk for a £10 part-time wage.

Sorry, that jarred with me too. But managing East Stirlingshire is a bloody hard job, but even so.... How about a few nice young wee scots?
