One bad thing is Prescotts are only (now) Intel procs who work with 9++ chipsets meaning you'll get PCI-X support only with them.
Why not betting on AMD btw?

if I take 2.8 GHz Pentium, there is no PCI-x bus. Now this can be frustrating in the future.

It can. If PCI-X is going to become the common technology. Unpredictable.

YEs, but by that time, MTB for 2.8 GHz will be extinct |

What i think of this, kov, is, as long as you tend to Intel, keep away from Prescotts.
PCI-X only used by GPUs now, and all the solutions are available via AGP (at least, now).
I have P4 2.4C, 512 DDR400 and 160Gb for about 18 months. I can't see other weak spots than memory and GPU (both are easily upgraded should the need arise).
You can't see a difference between 2.8 and 3.2 in common applications. So, what's you PC for, again?

by the time great hardware for AGP becomes extinct you're very likely to buy a new motherboard and CPU anyway.
Keep it simple, stupid. Planning ahead for the future won't help you anyway, other than putting more RAM into it.

| No word of a lie, but I have upgraded my computer on more than one occasion solely because of Championship Manager.
If a new version came out and was too painful to play, It was straight of the the computer store.
