Wasted, really. In my household, I have both a 2.8 Ghz (mine) and my gf's 3.2 Ghz.
2.8 Ghz, running at 40° constantly, approx 2000-3000 rpms fanspeed.
3.2 Ghz, running at 55°-60° constantly, approx 4000-5000 rpms fanspeed.
So even though the fan is running and running (and it's an expensive one..), the CPU is heating up. Makes it 3-4 times louder than mine (with a standard CPU boxed fan).
Btw, I also checked serial number of the processors. It's the same one. It's just that the 3.2 Ghz one is running a different multiplier. ("Officially overclocked"). Imho, the little bit more speed isn't worth it, really.

I've got a Pentium 2.8. Lept getting a siren sound as the thing overheated. Took the cover off the case, still happened. So I increased the temperature that the alarm would kick in and I've had no further sirens. Probably not the ideal solution, but the noise was ruining my tactical genius.

well, you obviously got a Pentium 2.8 of the "old generation" then. If it's the "top of the scale", it will get really hot. |

Before anyone comments on my superb spelling effort, that last post should read "KEPT getting a siren sound."

Don't know which generation it is, but it's the one with the Hyper Threading Thingy. (I think that's the technical term, isn't it?)

Sounds like a problem with the heat sink then. Or you were duped and your processor is some relabelled and overclocked pirated one. |

Yes, kov, better bet on 2.8 thingy.
Those 3.0+ Prescotts are real hot and a mistake by Intel.

Anayway, I was thinking of 3.0 GHz processor. Not 3.2 GHz.
