Look, I know that poor computer can really persuade you not to play FM. But, there are plenty of leagues with less complicated system, less teams, less leagues etc. that work absolutely fabulous even on my PC.
Personally, I don't care if he posts or not, but you just can't allow people to use excuses to bend the rules. I tried playing in England myself, found that runs toooooooooooooo slooooooooooow and started over in a nation with fewer leagues. Hey, life ain't always fair....
What is my main concern is that (and I am not implying to you Invictus) certain users will join this forum, claim they have a poor computer and can't start lower and we will have tons of Portvale FC updates ( ). Now, that will not be LLM anymore.

LLM is a way of playing the game. It isn't just about where you start.
| Agree that we don't particularly want a forum full of Port Vale updates, but as long as everyone plays and posts to LLM guidelines it wouldn't bother me especially.

Actually, speed is not too important when running the FM leagues(well, it does count but...) RAM is actually more important. The game does lots of calculations and database calls, and all these are RAM intensive (temporarily storing data, doing another part of equation e.t.c) I notice our Slovinian friend may have a slow computer, but he has 512MB RAM, the same as me running on a 2.8 GHZ processor. Which enables more leagues to be handled. In the IT world, the single biggest bottleneck is you VM (Virtual Memory) where temporary data is push and popped on and off an area of the hard drive. By running more RAM, you reduce this data flow. Also of note, in my experiance, AMD processors are much better at handling the calculations needed for FM than Intel ones. Of course, then speed comes in to play, a 833MHZ machine is going to run its processes slower then a 1GHZ machine, but the ram emables more leagues to be run.

Hmm, from my days in tech support, I seem to remember that disk access times are the biggest bottleneck where DB performance is concerned. But then again, in these days of having databases that are actually smaller than the amount of RAM that may be a little outdated info.

I would agree, but there is a slight difference that you forgot. I use SDRAM. Most of people here use DDR or DDR2 RAM, which is at least 4 times faster.
There you go.
Anyway I am buying myelf a new computer next week or the week after that. already looked into it 900 EUR for 3.0 GHz Pentium 4 with 2 GB DDR RAM and 160 GB of HDD. It should be enough for next 5 years.

If you have the chance, opt for a 2.8 GHz P4 instead, kov. Everything above that is making your system a bunsen burner, and a loud one of that because of constant high rpms of the fan.

I know. Am considering another 5 EUR for a silent cooler.
