So I finished the rough draft for my thesis, and decided to celebrate by letting myself return to gaming. I let Frank be my guide, and he led me to US Royenne of the French National.
I've played the first three seasons. But if it is possible, due to the fact my gameplaying will be cut back again when my thesis comes back to me for (gulp) revision, I'm going to post every few days or so, following season 1 in the next post. That way hopefully I can keep a fairly regular pace to the thread. When the semester is over and I'm gradumicated, if not before, I'll catch up to date and continue normally.
US Royenne's nickname is "Roye" so if you see that (And you will), I am 'not' player naming. We have a 3000k stadium, 150 of which are seated. We start with 875k in the bank, and a 325k transfer budget. I had an AM, a scout, and a physio for staff. Enough players for every position, though few of them could actually 'play' their positions. With that, onto the season 1 update...
We started the season 2000-1 odds for promotion, odds on favorites for the drop. Board and fans both expect to "battle bravely" against the drop.
However, I had a star GK and a very good MC. They both made the National select side, and although we were never comfortable, we were usually on the good side of the drop zone.
We finished 13th place, 48pts. That put us a mere 6 pts out of the drop zone however. Which taught me that 40pts isn't enough in France. We lost 100k over the season, but a player sale of a competent DL will recoup that plus some. We added a SC and a FLC for next season as well.
French Cup- Cups stink. I fielded second stringers for both the 7th and 8th rounds, and got knocked out in the 8th. A mere 9k was added to the budget for my efforts.
Predictions for next season-board and fans-"battle bravely" against the drop once again. Season odds are, once again, 2000-1 for promotion, odds on for the drop. As I said, "The Somme remains the same."
We'd prefer if you posted your next two seasons in the next post as soon as possible for two reasons, shawn.
1) The LLaMas are a suspicious bunch. If you post a season every few days then it looks like you've actually only played the season in the intervening days, and
2) It totally defeats the purpose of having a three season qualifying period.
If you felt you were due consideration for being exempt from the rule then there was the <A HREF="mailto:llm.mods@gmail.com">llm.mods@gmail.co m</A> route to take.
Sorry ian, I saw the other thread where it was accepted and I thought it was OK. I didn't know I had to appeal for an exemption. No problem, I'll post season's 2 & 3 after I finish my Sam Adams.
We added a coach and a scout. Also some youth prospects, along with 3 quality (for us) signings. One an SC, the second a D/AML, the third a left sided winger. About as good as any club with an "obscure" rating could find.
We actually spent the 1st half of the season flirting with promotion. But a 2 month winless spell saw us to within 1 pt of the drop zone before the weather changed and our form righted.
We finished the season 11th place, 51 pts, 14/9/15. That left us 9 points clear of the drop zone. I also acquired the reputation of being a "media friendly manager," can't guess why.
French Cup- Made it to 9th round before my reserves-only policy caught up with me.
We made 334k, have a budget over 1mil Euro, bu twe are blowing out our wage budget, and I expect that to fall. Once again we are predicted by the bookies to take the drop next season (only 1000-1 promotion odds though). And the board and the fans still expect next year to "battle bravely" against the drop.
We added 2 Auxerre castoffs. One a DMRC and the other a AM/F RC. Surprising, given our rubbish reputation. Unfortunately, this also had the effect of hastening the blowing out of our accumulated extra funds from last season, as we had to pay a combined 300k for them.
We actually hit 1st place early on in the season. And we flirted with promotion as late as 2 games from the finish. Both our Auxerre castoffs played well. Our F RC finished w/ 15 goals and got capped by his African nation (though he came to us from another French side). Unfortunately, we still managed to have a dreadful month of March and that left us 5th place, 59pts, 15/14/9 6 pts shy of promotion. being in the chase upped both my reputation and the clubs to "local." Big change, too bad no one will sign for us still.
French Cup- We beat a 2nd div team in the 8th round with my reserves (Laval), before succumbing to 2nd Div Brest with my reserves on PKs in the 9th round. Make 45k for the effort.
Had to clean out much of my reserves and dump some of my less-proficient squad players in the off season to get my wages back in line. Bookies have us 50-1 promotion odds, still relegation battlers. And board and fans still are giving "battle bravely" expectations for next season. Like the thread title says.

Anyhow, KUTGW
Wow you've opened my eyes!!!
I really must start betting, 50-1! sure of promotion, thats a lot of winnings for me. I thought betting was far more risky. Have you got a tip for the 4.20 at Cheltenham?
