Being the dilligent student that I am during the schoolyear, I didn't get a chance to play CM/FM for awhile. With summer at full force now, I decided to divulge back into my management days and purchase the new FM2005. Having not played the series in about a year and a half (with Narpes Kraft, Second Division Finland), I thought I'd take it easy, and debated between St. Albans, Weston-super-Mare and River Plate. Of course, I chose the team with the most unique name, and being the American that I am, had no idea about the team Weston-super-Mare.
Was told to avoid relegation and was sucessful in that. Found FM a lot more challenging, however, and with no euros in my bank, it was tough to get anyone. First year rolled around and ended with my team lodged in 11th place, about 14 points behind 6th placed Margate.
The start of the second year now rolls along, with very erratic tactics and not much of a solid core. Also am 200,000 in the red, and over 200k over my wage budget. Expected to again stay safe of relegation, I have my eyes on the higher prize of at least making it in the playoff, but with my team, I may just have to settle for 10th.
This version is definetly more of a challenege than the older incarnations of the game (don't know if I can even say the name of these boards anymore). I'll struggle but hopefully one day, I can get them out.
It's just not necessary to stomp people who behave rational and mature, as opposed to the crop that sometimes spreads over into this board like a disease.
Good question, mkus. I don't really know why I chose it. I guess I left it at default setting...haha.
Being that I am now addicted to this game, just finished another season. Season had its ups and downs, as early in the year I was definetly down. I reached first place for a span of 3 weeks or so, and ended up in the playoffs, in third position.
During that time span, found someone in my team who became my target man, as he grabbed 23 goals. His partner, snatched up from a league team, had 16 assists, so we had a pretty dynamic strike force. The playmaker of my team also came through to provide the best overall average on my squad. I thought I had found correct tactics but still they were very leaky, as I still am giving up a lot of shots, and feel as though I am lucky as can be in not losing a lot of my games.
Anyways, finished in 3rd place, making the playoffs. First round I took Margate out in the first away leg 3-1, and while losing the second leg 2-1, advanced on aggregate. Next matchup was the final against Dorchester and I managed to sneak a win by 3-2. My number one GK at that time had been injured and my reserve had been playing well so I went with him, even though my number one was back.
Faced Nuneaton Borough in the Conference North/South playoff. Very, very slow game with not many shots being fired off, until a Nuneaton striker made it 1-0. Eventually, they only ended up with about 2 shots on target, and I lost 1-0, with my backup GK having a rating of 5. I lost of promotion playoff and am thus, still dwelling in the depths of Conference North.
Key injuries threw me off, as my key ML and GK were injured during my playoff run and even after coming back, were really never themselves. Also, got a little further into the red, to 300,000. Summer has come and gone, a few players have retired, others have been released, and now am still facing that uphill challenge to eventually get into the Nationwide Conference.
