Well, it was inevitable. Started out my season in great form, not losing until the 7th game. I pretty much was crusing with Dorchester and my star midfielder, who I finally gave a free role too, was absolutely kicking it, excelling more than I thought possible. This bodes well for me because he's only 28 too, so i was extremely happy. He was on target and quite the playmaker, making me as excited as I could be during the game!
So throughout the year, Dorchester and I jostled for first place, until I finally grasped hold of the spot and didn't let go, eventually winning Conference North by 7 pts. I was extremely dismayed when my board went from 'Delighted' to 'Very Pleased' though, right after I got promoted.
Have a pretty good system for my GK as both of them are class. My lineup stays the same throughout games, as my average age is probably around 21.5 years. I lack veterans but a 22 year old striker gives me the inspiration and influence I need...I guess.
New season has started and brings with it a lot of challenges, most of which involve how I will get new personnel into the team (when no one still wants to come), with no money (well, I have -120,000 euros, I guess if you count that), and questions like that. All that matters though is my promotion right now...

Ouch. That really hurt.
New year rolled around with huge expectations, as I believed that we could be promoted, automatically or through playoff. Started out mid-table until I hit a winning streak and rode it to 5th place. My MC was really performing well (5 years straight running as my POY) along with the fact my FC would get nothing done for 10 games then hit three hat tricks in three games. My defence was solid, as I recently recruited a Lituanian international to my team, luckily. My DMC's were horrible and really didn't plug my gaps in my defence, but it worked well enough that I made it to first with two games left.
By that time, my team, being fitigued as shiet, had fitness levels at around 90%. I should have probably rested them and conceeded the game, but instead, I decided I wanted to win to control my own destiny. Suffice to say, Forest Green demolished me, putting me back in second. My next game was fate acompli, though.
Mansfield was first, 71 pts to 70, and my next game happened to be against them. It was at home, and I got my fitness levels back to 95% or so, so I felt extremely confident, even calling out the opposing manager. Bad move, as I lost 3-1 and dropped to 4th. I made the playoffs and was seeded against Aldershot. First away leg consisted of 7 goals as I lost 4-3. My second choice GK played and he played horribly, getting a 5 rating and letting in about 80% of the shots faced. The only good thing out of the game was that I had 3 away goals to my credit, so if I escaped 1-0, I would win.
That didn't happen, though and instead I drew with Aldershot, which moved on, then lost to Forest Green in the final. Personnel really didn't improve as no one wants to come to my team and with VERY limited transfer funds, who could really blame them?
New season starting to roll around, as I have released many of my transfer listed players, nabbed a famous Serb to me by assistant coach, and my old DL to be my psyio. Things aren't looking bright so far, as my record is 0-4-1 with 5 games passed by. Team really didn't improve except for a midfielder I snagged from the EPL with the longest name ever! Really, really dissapointed with the season to say the least.

| I thought, but I'm probably wrong, that the playoffs do not use the away goal rule. :?

You'd be right. At least that's the deal in the Conference Divisions, not sure if it's the same in the Leagues/Championship.

I'm beginning to feel as if no tactics work for me anymore. I started out with one tactic which lasted me for two years and then it just died, and then I used another one, and now I'm completely lost. My personnel is okay, but I just can't win anymore, as I am actually in last place, with the exact same team as last year. I just have to take a break or something like that...kinda demoralizinf because I used to have a set tactic and did a little better in the older incarnations of this game

You have to take the rough with the smooth, its not plain sailing in the lower leagues.
