What the others said. Sell dead wood, reduce wage bill, fine top-earners for no reason, hope for a cash cow in the cups (although they suck arse). And hope that you don't get relegated anyway.

IIRC fines go to a charity to help young footballers and those who have had their careers cut short through injury.

When George Graham was sacked (or resigned depending on whose story you believe) as manager of one his clubs, a large amount of cash was found in his desk drawers.
The explanation was that this was money from players' fines that was due to go to charity, but had not been sent yet.
