We don't tip on how to find the best players - but we *do* tip on how to find players in an LLM fashion.
Here's a detailed description on how I find players. Experienced LLMs are welcome to critique my methods.
1) Find players.
a) Scout. A lot. Got it? Okay, now scout more. Invest in scouts, if you can. Put 'em to work, preferably scouting a realistic locale. In my Northampton game, I've scouted Youth players, specific clubs in the league, and England. I've dabbled in Scotland & Ireland, too at this point.
b) "Newspaper scouting." Any manager worth their salt reads the daily league news. Anytime a player receives an award or is mentioned in trade talks, I see just who it is they're talking about. Also, about twice a season I'll scan entire divisions. Let me clarify this - it's nothing extensive. But I'll send a scout to Division Three (or whatever) and see who were the leading goalscorers, who had the most clean sheets, see if any midfielders or defenders had very high average ratings. I view this as equiavalent to reading the newspaper regularly.
c) Use player search for "expiring" or "expired" contracts in the off-season. I'm not really sure how I feel about this. Some knowledge of contracts must exist out there. But the player search feels a little too good for really obscure divisions, meticulously putting every poof up there. I've largely stopped using this.
2) Decide Which Players to Persue
We should come up with some sort of rules before hand though.
a) Get Scouting Reports. Now that my club is doing better and I have multiple scouts, I keep one at home just to "get scouting reports." As much as possible, I make sure any acquisitions have favorable scouting reports.
b) Performance - I'll check basic stats over the last couple years. How did this guy do with his past teams? Bonus if I've seen their performance in my own division.
c) Atributes - I give a quick glance at attributes. I'll often check pace, get a general idea if a player is technically adept or mentally strong. I try to avoid making detailed, direct comparisons.
3) Negotiate for a Player
a) Fail utterly and completely.
