I'm playing FM & CM since CM2, but never did any postings.
I guess it's time for that.
Playing Large DB with 99 leagues from 46 countries and masked attributes... (I found out that it's harder to get good players if other teams are playing in their leagues and making money!)
Rules:
-Every signed player needs to be scouted prior
-Personally developed Tactics and Training schedules only!
-Unless sacked, no team change until, at least second contract expiring.
-New job can't more than one league up
-Sign only players playing in UK & Ireland region

Randomly picked Cambridge City....
Starting situation was not promising:

Money: 25k pounds (at least not in red!)
Transfer budget: double nothing + 70% of transfers
Wages: 104/week over limit
Players: 24 total
Board Expectation: Safe mid Table
Fan's Expectation: invest in new players and rebuild team
My Expectation: Play offs
First thing was to get 3 more scouts (4 total), and send them to England, Scotland, Ireland & N. Ireland), and 6 more coaches from ads. I was lucky, because my AssMan was snapped from me as soon I signed him (left for League Two club), and I got 20k for him. That gave me 16k for buying players (I'm rich!!!).
Second, I restructured contract of my players to fit them under salary cap. Managed to get rid of 6 of them paying up around 5k total.
My scouts found 5 free transfers that I signed and penciled 3 of them in starting line up.
I have high hopes in young influential Irish SC that I signed as my target man. Managed to sign 2 loans: DC from Arsenal reserves, AMC from Luton reserves, for whole season. (Found by scouts first)
During my last preseason game, target man got injured for 3 weeks and I scrambled to find replacement, so I signed SC from Rushden reserves on 3 months loan. He managed to fill in decently, but still my start of the season was quite shaky. I was able to outplay opponents in first 3 games but they finished in draws (in two I was leading).After loads of chances, no goals from forwards, all three goals came from midfield.
My goalkeeper was awful, couldn't catch a cross if you lead him to it, midfield couldn't make any tackle when needed.
I reshuffled tactics and team, managed to sign young GK and two midfielders on free, rid off left winger giving him to other team for free, and transferred on of SC to make space under salary cap. I can't buy anybody that I’m interested in, because they all want way more money than their present salaries, and I can't afford it....
It worked!!! I lost only one game in FA cup since...
After 115 days in charge situation is:
League: Pos #2 P11 5W 4D 1L 21-7 22p
FA Cup: lost to Vauxhall Motors in 3rd Qual. Rnd
2:1 (A)
FA trophy: not played yet
Friendlies: P4 1W 0D 3L 2-4
Salary: still under limit (barely)
I still want to extend loan for SC until rest of season, will see what happens...

That loan from Arsenal is a bit unrealistic i think - how many Premiership youngsters actually join Conference level clubs IRL?

it's 20 DC, and he's only backup here.My on loan players are usually only backups,in case of injury.I don't stall my players under contract from developing because lack of playing.In my game Lewes loaned two guys from Liverpool.

mlp071, KUTGW but listen to what the others have said. You have clearly tried to keep your save as real as possible judging by the number of leagues running and your reasons for doing so, quite how your PC runs this I don't know but that is a different story! Loaning Premiership players is stretching realism a touch.

Loaning to Conf N/S from EPL obviously ain't realistic, but what's the guide on loans? Two divisions down max?

If your AssMan identifies a player as a realistic target for loan then I find it difficult to argue against signing him if he's willing to come, regardless which Division his Team play in.

Far from saying you should use him as a backup, I'd say use him to his full ability if he's better than the players you've got.

The only proviso I'd set was make sure he comes from your AssMan identifying him as a target rather than trawling the Top Teams.
