hi guys, im new to this forum thing but here goes. i have started 4 saves over the past 3/4 weeks and everyone has been a disaster. iv been everton, mk dons and west brom twice and just cant seem to get any of the anywhere! none of the teams have stood a chance away from home (all with a 4-4-2 normal formation) and at home im forever conceding goals. iv been playing CM/FM for years, so it cant be down to my managerial skills (i hope)! so i could do with abit of helpful advice from someone...anyone!

Go to the Tactics Forum and read the FAQ thread and also the main threads ( especially by wwfan ) in the Unofficial Tactics Bible thread and this will give you lots of help in developing tactics.

Have you installed the beta patch? If not I would suggest you do. The game was released with a lot of big bugs and one of these was closing down which may be your problem (or part of it anyway). Installation of the patch fixes these issues.

iv managed to get to first patch 8.0.1 i think it is, but apparently there is an updated patch out now?! if so where can i download it from because on my comp it says "the server is undergoing routine maintanence" when i click on the "download" section of this site!

thanks, but iv already got that 1. isnt there a "version 2" of that patch tho? also, can anyone give me any good players? i know its not the rite forum for this but hey... im new!

It is the version 2, the file it links to has been changed. You would notice it's somewhat bigger if you noticed the size of the first one

And if you know this isn't the right place then why ask here? There are threads filled to the brim in the good player forum!

My advice would be to examine the assumption at the base of this statement:

Your "managerial skills" all apply to previous incarnations of the game. It may be that you have come up with very good "solutions" to the problems posed by tactics, training, team-talks, etc .. for the previous versions.

If you don't think of those as "new problems" - if you expect to apply the old solution to the latest version - and that solution no longer works .. then you're giving yourself the following huge blind spot:

"Well, it can't be my team-talks, because those won me a treble in FM'07.."

"Well, it can't be my tactics, because I won the C.L. three years in a row with them in FM'05.."

"Well, it can't be my training, because I turned coal into diamonds over and over in FM'06.."

Clearly there's nothing left to change!!
