As Burnley, I've got 36 year old Graham Alexander as captain. He's had an average season, getting an average of 6.66. My assistant has also informed me that he has declined as a player in training, and his stamina has declined rapidly (he's finishing games with about 50%, always tired).
I've already got a new captain lined up for the upcoming season. Has anyone changed their captain like this, and what happened? I get the impression he's not really that respected by my current squad anyway.

he gets a morale drop, the squad will either go down or up depending on if they beleive the new captain is suitable the new guy will go up if he thinks he is good enough

i had an issue where i changed captain and my whole teams moral dropped, the way you should get around it is leave Graham Alexander as your captain and the new guy youve got lined up as your vice captain and dont play alexander this way everyone is happy unless of course you want to play both of them.

I changed my captain at Chester City, to the player with the most influence (as you'd expect). Virtually every other player believed that they would make a better captain than him.
The old captain, Hines was his name IIRC, got really unhappy with me taking his armband off of him.

I started the game with a team just promoted to bss. Only 1 player (24 yo) and 6 or 7 new youngsters (as always). I signed only one player by the time I'd asked to choose captain. This player was 36 yo, from the same country, 16 influence >10 in team work... and I chose him as captain and the 24yo player as vice. The result?
3/4 of my 15yo-17yo players thought that they were better captains than him o_O, and the other player who can be captain (my vice) was very happy to be vice-captain. After one week they recovered morale, but I was a little shocked.

After one season i changed captain at Norwich from long-standing captain Jason Shackell to Maciej Iwanski who'd only been at the club a year. Everyone was delighted, paricularly Iwanski who now lists me in his favoured personnel slot.
I kept Shackell as Vice-Captain though.

You should find that, if you pick the right player ( high attributes in influence and determination ) that has been at the club for a while, the other players will react quite positively to your choice.
