I have never noticed this myself, so I was wondering if anyone else has.

Is it possible to make new rivals over a long period of time?

For example, I'm in 2020 with West Brom, have played with them from 2008. Every season I'm always playing Southampton, be it in the FA Cup, League Cup, fighting for the league, etc.

Is it possible that we will eventually become rivals?

I don't think so, which is little bit annoying as this should really happen.

Say in 30 years time, Reading, Swansea and Arsenal were the top three teams in England, and had been for the past 10 years, whilst Man Utd had dropped to League 2, it is unlikely that Utd would still be considered a rival of Arsenal, whilst Swansea and Reading would be considered their main rivals after Spurs.

I think they did on fm2007 but only if you helped with a bit of slagging cause I had a rivalry with real madrid when I was Bayern Munich manager and it was cause I gave them loads of stick before and after knocking them out of the european cup. I liked it that I had a rivalry with them as I hate the club in real life.

Nope. Never noticed them changing even after loads of years and lots of tense battles.

I'm afraid there's no way of forming rivalries just using the game. There's a way of adding them using FMM, which I did because I took a lower league club up to the Premiership and was bored of not having any derbies ever. It's not ideal, but if you've developed a mental rivalry, it's the best way of telling the game that.
