I've been playing CM then FM for over a decade now, and always managed to achieve some sort of success after a time - not all the time, mind, but at least some of the time.
But I can't seem to hold down a job until Christmas this time around, and I just don't know where I'm going wrong.
I've tried different kinds of teams (with different levels of expectation), different tactics and team selections, different training schemes and teamtalks, I've tried bringing in new players and sticking with existing teams, and I've tried pre-patch and post-patch.
But most of the time my defenders make silly mistakes, my strikers aim for the corner flag...and I just can't seem to make any team work for more than a couple of matches.
Now, the last thing I want is to stroll it...but I've started in excess of 25 games around the world, and I fail every time.
Perusing the forums this doesn't seem to be a common complaint, so clearly I'm just rubbish...but if anybody could give a few tips, I'd appreciate it.
Look over all the goals you've scored and conceded. I'd look at the ones I've conceded and see where I'm going wrong and fix it with the sliders. Same for the goals I've scored, if my striker shoots to early I'd mabye slow down the tempo a bit. Hope this helps.

Best thing is to go to the tactical forum and search for AI tactics. This was a great thread that I read a few months ago and then again recently. It'll explain how to use your assistant manager to set the tactics during friendlies (which you can view during the game) and then you can adopt these yourself. This is not the best way to enjoy the game but at least it'll give you some pretty good pointers as to how to play.
If there is a style you want to play, use the editor to give yourself a manager (as an assistant) that plays in that style. Watch a few games and then start the game over with the database in its original form.
I strongly suggest you look at the tactics section in the unofficial fanzine. Worked wonders for me. I now rarely change my tactics regardless of who I'm playing with or against. The same works for my Inter game and my Kettering game, and its all thanks to the tips. :cool:
