I'm sure I'm not the only player whose done an online 'diary' of their progress in the game. At the moment I'm working on a Socceroos one with a view towards doing a second diary about Australia's preparations to host its own tournament (ostensibly in 2018).
My question is, how is it decided which nation gets a World Cup? Is there some tinkering I can do to ensure that Australia has it in 2018? Is it set in stone when I start my game or is it a random decision at the conclusion of each World Cup?
Well, irl the World Cup changes continents after each tournament. And since they keep hardcoding more and more of these official rules I suppose that it'll be the same in FM. So if in 2006 it was Germany, and 2010 it'll be South-Africa, then it'll go to some other continent after that. Though I'm not sure which. But I suppose that Australia will host it someday. On the other hand I don't think you can be of any influence on it in-game.
If it's hard coded to continue the rotation policy, then it'd probably go to Oceania in 2018. That said, hasn't it been revealed that 2010 will be the last year of the rotation policy? I was under the impression they only wanted an African nation to host it, and this was the only way one of their proposals would win?
So, to the topic at hand, does anybody have any idea what FM 2007 uses to decide who hosts? I've done some tinkering in my game (upped the game's popularity, stadium capacities, club wealth etc) but is there anything else I can do.
And when the announcement is made, can I load my pre-announcement save game and try my luck again or will it be hard wired?
