I ma Man Utd, My defensive line up is Neville, Rio, Gabriel Milito ans Evra.

I play them all zonal marking, no tight marking, no offside trap, 1 notch for CF and about 3-4 for mentality.

How deep should I set my defensive line?

Sometimes I play with one of my MC (with individual set up like a dm settings)and then sometimes I use a DM.

Also people I gather that passing/tempo should either be short/slow or direct/fast.

Which is best against teams I think I'm gonna beat and which is best against harder games, like my title rivals?

My back 4 were just all in a perfect line spread acroos field 18 yards from my goal.

Jaap Stam is set to:

Ment 4 notches (defence)
CF 1 notch (little)
closing down 3 notches (rarely)
Defensive line 3 notches (deep)
no tight marking & zonal marking.

So why does he run 35-40 yards from my goal to try tackle a guy with the ball, who then just flicks it over him to a striker who is where stam should have been.

I think i've mentioned a incident like this before somewhere, so its not first time either.

decisions become a factor, and well stam may have thought the striker was in the zone, and went after him, them became comitted (would you prefer that he left the wide player to move happily down the wing?)

furthermore what are your fullbacks doing? or did you have stam our at DR?

on your defensive line, it depends on what style of play you prefer. go deep for counter/ direct etc, or push up for offside etc.

surely you know what to do if you feel a match will be tough or easy.
