I know time wasting is pretty essential to this, but what else is?
Do you set your mentality slot and passing to short and slow to just knock it around?
Nothings very specific and I've finally come to the point of my game where Leagues Cups etc are very easily attainable if I could just close out games..
While I'm not asking for a set tactic, I am just asking for a little advice on the matter.
I used to really struggle with killing of games aswell but now usually i'm able to hang on to a result. If i enter the final 10mins with a small lead then i slow the tempo down to about the middle and i do up time wasting to the middle too. Then i change from direct play to more varied. Usually it works.
Turn time wasting up, slow down the tempo and move to short passing, play through the middle of the park to avoid costly long ball turnovers to your wingers which can cause late game crosses into your box and leave counter attack on to hopefully bury them in the final minutes.
I would also turn my team mentality to defensive and if already defensive would drop it a few clicks lower.
I have also added barrows to MC's and Wingers before to flood more guys back to break up attacks. Barrows on two MC's for instance will in effect give you 2 DMCs
To close down a game, I generally do all of the above (reduce tempo, make passes short, increase time wasting, focus passes to narrow, stop using a playmaker) but I also sacrifice a striker and play someone in front of the back 4. Going to a 4-1-4-1.
Stop winger and full back attacking too (mentality and arrows)
hmm, counter attacking is usually exactly what gives me the edge when hte other team goes to 424. I then play like an away game, with fast direct passing and counter attacking, pulling my wingers back though (barrows). 95% I would estimate that I score rather than getting a goal

Hmm.. probably works that way too. I just want my wingers to stay on my own half and marking opposite wingers or FR/L's. And I've noticed that if counter-attacking is ticked on they tend to leave their men and rush to attack even if their mentality is set to defensive when my team gets the ball.
Oh, I forgot to mention that my team also manages to score when opponents are trailing in the end. Even when my wingers are pulled back and sticking to their men. Usually I score from long balls from defence straight to a striker.
Three tips:
1. Ask one DR/L or one MC to hold up the ball
2. If you click counter-attacking, may want to choose more direct passing style or quicker tempo to work with it. Also place a pacy striker in the front, and set his mentality higher than other teammates.
3. If you have a small lead, say 1:0 at 80 mins, and you want to hold on the result. Change your formation to either 4-1-4-1 or 5-4-1 BEFORE the AI changes its formation to 4-2-4.
