go onto a defender, then go on training, then go attributes and on the drop down menu on the right select defending, i think that is everything that a good defender should have

what position as R/L attributes are different to the DCs
DCs = heading, tackling, marking, jumpimg, strength, bravery and teamwork
Dr/Dl= position, tackling, anticipation and pace
this is only the in my opinion, I would also look for a bit of pace on all defenders as its helpful if they are fast getting back for a c/attack. If you have quite high d line. this is only my opinion, hope it helps.
Tactical Bible is very helpful is helpful.

blade111, not being picky or questioning u but how does teamwork come into it? for me all i want my defenders to do is stop attacks, reduce the opposition to long range efforts, and give the ball to my midfielders

Sorry thezogsaordie, but I have loads of bits of paper that I have written down of facts, and one is Marc Vaughans info and on it he has "Teamwork" as one of the main contributions for a cd, so as he is the main man I took it that it could be helpful.
And thats not having a pop at you, but believe me I've read everything, a lot of it makes sense other things don't. Such is life.

no its fine i was just curious, i think i have heard of him doesnt he give an insite into how the game works?
i did the same sort of thing i had about 8 pages of writing, (would have been 2 at max size 12 font on microsoft word!) but i didn't really pick up much useful, and it sort of clicked somewhere along the way, and i am now having great success! like before i went by the manual, "if a player has got creativity and decisions, make their creative freedom high" i used to do this for some defenders but didnt realise that i need to make it low so they do the job, and high closing down etc, this game is so good when you know how to use the tactics!!

Yes Marc Vaughan is head of Developement at Sports interactive, I'm pretty sure he was one of 3 guys that actually started the CM series, I'm sure somebody may say different if I'm wrong.
I know where your coming from with the info. My printers knacked at the moment good thing as it would have cost me £££££££££££££ in ink.So I've got scraps of paper everywhere with scribble on.
But as Marc helped develope the game, I'm hoping he has some insight on how to play it.
Anyway its "Vaughans hints & tips" in the tactical Bible, if your interested.

As a quick side note, teamwork is handy because it means the defenders can communicate properly with each other and the goal keeper. That way, you should have only one defender going after the ball and it is virtually essential in playing a good offside trap, or just for "holding the line" at the back.
I also look for concentration. That can sometimes make up for a lack of talent elsewhere because at least you know the guy is going to be "average" for the full 90, not brilliant for 85 and conceed a stupid goal in the last 5.

Cheers Millie for that
My thoughts was that reason for "teamwork" was something to do working a defensive unit, but as teamwork is not needed for dr/dl, your version sounds more realistic.
