Building tactics around extreme weather or pitch dimentions
I thought this was maybe worth some discussion, as there are a couple of teams who, for reasons we cant change, have exceptional circumstances around their grounds on match days. I've just played Auxerre who have a very odd shaped pitch and struggled against them, so its got me wondering about the feasability of building specialist home tactics to take advantage of this.
Once I'm bored of my current Rouen game, one of my ambitions is to conquer Spain, a league I've never won in any FM, but do so from the Canary Islands, as either Universidad Las Palmas or one of the newly promoted teams, like Fuerteventura or San Isirdo.
The Canary Islands though, have their own weather system that is vastly different from the rest of Spain. There is very rarely any precipitation, the temperatures are very high and there are a lot of high winds. I've wondered then, if it would be possible to play to certain natural strengths that would give me - for example, high winds disrupting aerial/cross balls, temperature causing condition problems. Theoretically, keeping the ball on the ground, through the centre at an energy conserving tempo should serve me better in the Canaries than in mainland spain, making Las Palmas a nightmare place to visit.
Does anyone have any experience of this to explore and develop? Its fairly specialist so its probably minor for most big teams on the continent, but I'm still intruiged as to the impact it would have.

Its a good idea Oktober. The problem is I dont think all these little whether details are programmed into the game. The only time there is a difference is when the pitch is muddy. Than you know you gotta change. Other than that you will have no advantage.

Thats why I was asking in here first - I didnt want to spend weeks on it only to discover that weather's purely cosmetic :p
I've definately noticed the muddy 'wet' pitch problems but not really seen much else other than just 'wet' or 'dry' outside Central Europe/UK. The Canaries though still count as part of the Spanish league, and looking in the data editor about their weather system its pretty wildly different, the temperature and winds especially.

Having played one game in 'gusty' conditions I think I can safely conclude that the weather is going to play a big part in this :p A corner to the box ended up at almost the halfway line, long balls are going everywhere, panicked clearances are coming back to where they came from. This could be very interesting if I have to put up with this bi-weekly.

Keep it on the ground with the wind. If there are constantly high temperatures, it just means that your players will fatigue more quickly. You can conserve their energy by lessening the tempo.
But if you're playing a whole season in the heat, the players will begin to run out of energy more rapidly as the season progresses, in my experience. You'll have to make sure to rest your players regularly for 1 or 2 days after matches come midseason.
