It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Today, I got rather bored sitting at home, and was playing CM 01/02. I then remembered the great tactic that was WWW2, and wondered to myself, could this infact be recreated into FM2007?

The answer, I believe, is yes.

The football engine still uses the same principles.

WWW2, effectivly, is just the idea of packing the midfield completely, so you get a bundle of chances, whilst still keeping the oppostion out, or so I assume by the odd foramtion

For the newcomers, who haven't been playing the series long, The tactic consists of:
2 DC
1 DMC and 1 DMR, DML
3 MC
1 AMC
1 FC

Odd formation. I didn't know whether using a tactic that only has two DC's and no actual fullbacks would work, but it seems to hold out quite well.

In making the tactic, I used the tactic settings in cm 01/02 as a base, and tried to add some of the more recent theories to the tactic.

I haven't had a lot of time for testing which is where I really would need some help. If anyone has the time to take a look and do a bit of tactic testing, then please do, and get back to me with any suggestions on how we could improve it.

Thanks.

Hey if you need to have people testing this tactic i will be more than pleased to help...i am going to try this with my Wolves as they are a mid-level championship team on the game (unlike reallife ) come on wolves plays-offs!!!!

Really though Wolves are a good team to try this wth as they have players that can fill the positions in this formation...i will start the game now and give you some feedback after the pre-season friendlies

WEll i just left mine on go on holiday int his european league, eneded up winning it, loads of goals, but unfortunatly, lots of goals let in. So obviously the defence needs work, so if you could take a look at that I would be most grateful. Anything that could be done to aid defence without taking away from attack.

After the first game where i was being caught out at the back i made a couple of changes to my Wing-backs...took off the farrows and gave them barrows to the DL and DR positions, i also changed their forward runs from often to mixed...immediately i saw a difference.

With the way they were set up they often got caught out of position on the counter attack and left me exposed. now they seem to hang back and allow the team to build from the back without taking anything away from the attacking impoteous of the formation. They seem to play almost as a back 4 while at the same time they will get forward when needed to support the attack.

With the wing-backs now playing slightly deeper it has given the team more room in the midfield and allowed the 2 outside MC to get forward and run the channels allowing for more effective passing and movement.

Still in the test period but this change seems to be working well at the moment

just a quick one after friendlies -

Pl 6 W 4 D 0 L2

For 15 Against 8

Defence needs more work but that is on-going. ATM i am tinkering with the Defensive line slider as this is a current theory that seems to be working wonders for quite a few people.

i'm also considering the idea of using the Central MC as a Playmaker as he has an ideal oppourtunity to use the space given to him and use the outer MC's and AMC to good effect.

I will continue with this as it seems to be a very good base for a formation and i can see it going well...fingers crossed

Thanks Dave. Am thinking of playing around with the Goalkeeper, and maybe having him as a more sweeping one, adding him to close down a lot more than he is. Maybe playing a deeper defensive line might help.

think that when you go on holliday the assisten manager starts with the tactic and first 11 you have choosen, but into the game he switches it to the tactic and players he likes (out of the players you have on the bench) so if I'm right you can't count on holliday mode when testing tactics

Another thing i have noticed is that yes i am having a fair few number of attempts on goal but alot are from long range as half the midfield seem to be on long shots! just toned the 2 outside MC's to Mixed Long shots so that in some circumstances they will try and create an opening rather than lump it at goal from 20-25+ yards. Maybe this is not neccasary with the bigger teams but seems to be neccesary for the smaller clubs.

Also since putting the defensive line slider all the way to the left alot of the oppositions counter attacks are getting snubbed out by either the WB's or the CD acting as sweepers if the WB is forward.
I dont know if this is counter productive to having "play offside" ticked but seem ok atm...does any1 know if this is effected?

will give you stats update after 1st half of season.
