Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Where have the mods and "tactical gurus" gone?

Lately, I`m very disappointed with the tactics forum, because there is no tactical discussion. Instead, there is a lot of people asking for specific situations, or posting "succesful" tactics. Where are the likes of Cleons, Rashidis, WWfans, etc?

Three reasons for no "tactical bible" for 2008..one either all of them are busy...two the tactical changes from 07 to 08 are minor (though i dont think so) and three they too are yet to clearly understand the match engine :p

There are a couple of threads posted in the unofficial tactics bible above...Cleon has continued his Sheffield United project while Rashidi has an LLM project with Cambridge United (i think)

The forum is poor these days because everything has been talked about already in the FM series, searching the forum will give most people answers to their questions.

Although many of us now understand how the engine works and the various issues involved, but we are not getting too involved in discussing tactics until these issues are fixed (no doubt a priority for the forthcoming patch after the transfer window closes).

I think you'll see much more discussion about tactics at that stage. What is happening on the boards at the moment is symptomatic of a match engine that is confusing - i.e. lost of people trying in vain to come up with something that works but not really understanding why and hence the lack of real discussion behind it.

Well, that's my reason anyway but I'll enjoy the tactics disussions again in February or thereabouts.

The engine atm is pretty much the final one i think, i dont know why everyone thinks it will be changed drastically.

The gurus arent posting for reasons....

Cleon and Rash are usually very busy
WWfan usually posts his theories thread after extensive testing and doesnt usually post the final product till January ish....

Lots of people understand the engine you can see that from the threads by Cleon and Rash and how easily they win.

And really Buxton is right, if you search the forum you will find lots of things there is very little changes from last year in tactics really i.e the same mentality etc. can be used for positions.

I should perhaps clarify that I don't expect the engine to be changed drastically, but there are a few areas that need to be tidied up and in doing so make a big difference to the experience. More control over long shots (i.e. have less of them), the slight tweaking of creative freedom and the current relatively weak control over MCs (making AMCs and DMCs more effective) are the main areas that require some slight alterations to make the tactics knit together better.

I'd be surprised if the tactical experts will really be able to do much until this is tidied up. I expect SI know this and these will be among the changes for the forthcoming patch.

Hope that is clearer.

There are many ways that you can exploit the engine to make the game easy and to get good results every game but that's not what we want is it? What the tactical threads have shown is either:

- How to exploit the engine
- How the tactics should work if the engine responded the way it should

My response to the original post was to tell him/her why myself and many others haven't taken the time in this patch to have as much discussion about the tactics as we would normally. I'm sure you realise that there hasn't been very much of this recently. But I appreciate my reasons are just that and there are other reasons that have reduced the postings by others.

Anyway, back to my game where my striker is about to be put in the reserves. Oh, how I wish I had a "you're fired if you shoot from 35 or more yards one more time" button !!!!!!!!
