Hamburger SV is a German football club based in Hamburg who play their football at the HSH Nordbank Arena. The club was founded as a sports club in 1887 when Der Hohenfelder Sportclub and Wandsbek-Marienthaler Sportclub merged to form Sports Club Germania. In 1919, Sports Club Germania then merged with Hamburger FC and FC Falke to create Hamburger Sport-Verein - the club that still exists as one of Germany's oldest and most well know football teams today. The team play in Red and White - in honour of the city of Hamburg.
HSV are one of the most successful teams in Germany having won the Bundesliga crown on 6 occasions, with a 7th in 1922 that was not officially awarded to them.
HSV have been the home to many famous footballers and nurtured some of the best talent in the world including: Felix Magath, Tony Yeboah, Franz Beckenbauer, Dan Van Buyten, Thomas Doll and Kevin Keegan. The team is currently the home of Dutch midfield playmaker and club captain, Rafael Van Der Vaart and talented young centre-back Vincent Kompany.

Possible Improvements
HSV have a decent squad but not real quality in depth and it definitely needs improving in order to qualify for continental competition. However, the main strengthening priorities are definitely goalkeeper and right-back. I've opted for cheap Romanian goalkeeper Danut Coman to back-up Frank Rost and Theo Lucius to play at right-back. I would definitely consider picking up one or two new centre-backs, perhaps Christopher Samba and Iranian defender Nosrati would be cheap targets. I'd also look to sign one or perhaps two new strikers in order to bolster the frontline - which looks quite poor at the moment. I'd also look to sign a back-up AMC to Van Der Vaart as, once he gets injured, no-one can really fill in for him.

Sold Kompany as I honestly don't rate him too highly (no sense of positioning, no ability to head the ball etc). Jarolim is good, but I couldn't turn down £6m for him. Olic is quick, but can't dribble or finish so I got rid of him and brought in Farfan to replace. Millar is versatile (AMRLC) and was brought in as some cheap back-up to VDV and Lazar was brought in as back-up to Nigel De Jong.
Ante Rukavina looks like a good striker for the future:
