Default James Vaughan - Is he really THAT good?

Just been looking to buy a striker and although he's injured at the start of season one on my save, have been drawn towards James Vaughan.

His attributes are absolutely superb for such a young player and scouts give him a 5 star rating. The only time I've seen a 5 star rating from my scouts is for players like Fabregas, Rooney, Ronaldo, Silva, etc...

Can anyone tell me if he is actually THAT good, both in FM2008 and real life.

In my fourth season on my Everton game Vaughan has 26 goals playing as a sub and spot starter. The year before he had 19 in the same role. He's also earned his first England cap. I'd say he's definetly worth giving a look. I've tried getting him in other games though and Everton usually ask a ton for him.

As for real life, I think he's one of the best young talents in England

He's quite obviously overrated as if he was as good as that in real life he would AT LEAST be getting tons of rumours linking him with various big money transfers.

Another similarily overrated player is kevin Doyle, he went to Roma in the first season of my game when IRL he's still slumin' it with lowly reading with not even a rumour linking him to the likes of Roma.

in fact, half the reading is way overrated, just like english football as a whole. the point with reading is that coppell gets the best out of what he's got. it doesn't mean their all amazing, it's just that coppell uses them well

I'm a blue and in real life we do have high hopes for Vaughan but not to the Ronaldo/Fabregas extent.
Although the reason why he hasn't had all the money clubs after him may be down to the fact that he has been injured for most of his career. He's only started nine games in three seasons because of these injuries nevertheless he has scored seven goals. He's quick and gets into goalscoring positions better than anyone at i've seen at Everton since Gary Lineker (Apart from maybe Dave Unsworth!).
We'll see though he does hold the national school goalscoring record, a record he took of Michael Owen and before him Ian Rush.
As for the game on my Everton leagues he has always managed to grab a hatful of goals for me and is a regular England International.

kevin doyle has 36 goals in 96 appearances in the prem so far.. with 'lowly reading' ...

(rooney has 46 in 112.. just as a comparison)

he's a top class player and the only reason he hasnt been linked with other clubs is that he isnt over hyped by the media

and no im not a reading fan...
jsut tired of the 'english football' bashing.. english football is great.. arguably the best leagues in the world at the moment with top players .. foreign and domestic alike...

"it doesn't mean their all amazing, it's just that coppell uses them well" -- so by that your suggesting a great manager could bring sunday league footballers to the premiership? hmmm dont think so mate... coppell is a great manager but he's doing it with very good solid players...

Thanks for the replies. It's probably because of his injury problems I've not seen much of him in action.

Obviously Wayne Rooney made a rapid and lasting impact, hence ending up at Man Utd. (I'm one of those rare United fans actually FROM Manchester Although living in Spain these days...)

Regardless of what club a player is at, in my opinion, because he's English and is obviously talented, let's hope he realises his potential, gets some games under his belt, is free of injury and is a future England prospect eh

Something that interests me greatly is that over the years, the FM series with their great network of "scouts" who provide the information used in the game, tend to be pretty much on the ball regarding talented young players.

I find I'm always keeping an eye out for players in real life, who many have never heard of before, because they were good prospects in the game.

welshace I must agree with you in this respect, as I think some of their players are a little over-rated.

Thing is, it must be the one difficult thing for a game like FM to emulate, in respect of AI managers over acheiving with clubs. It's generally alot easier for us to do it as the gameplayer though!

Lol - I always wonder if any "real" managers and scouts have played the game, seen the stats of a player, then taken an interest in them IRL?

If so, SI should get a cut of the fee
