I wouldn't say that the topic is moving toward tipping and tactics naming. The question I posed was whether people have generally experienced an ability to make just about any tactic work with the right personnel and coaches, or if the current FM game engine makes it impossible for some tactics to work. No one should name specific tactics. I'm only interested in the overall trend and people's impressions.

I had a tactic where I lost my first five games of the new premiership season after promotion. NO big deal. To be expected. Due to an injury I changed my formation and by the end of the season we qualified for the Champions League. Made it to CL quarter-finals and finished 5th. :/
A few years on that tactic doesn't seem to work, with virtually the same players--though an 8 month long injury to my playmaker is likely the cause among other things. Now 12th and struggling through the UEFA cup. (scouts haven't found any players either. :explode
Is that what you were looking for? |

As long as the tactic works, at least for a while, then I suppose that it means that it's usable. It's certainly no surprise that a good tactic will eventually fail to generate results. I think the lads at SI have made a concerted effort to force us all to change tactics from time to time.
Your experience with your tactic not working for a few matches is pretty realistic, though. It should take some time for the players to learn the tactic and for the coaches to adjust to it as well. With enough time, you should be able to get most tactics to work, unless your coaches have specific preferred formations and styles of play that conflict with your choice. But whether or not you can achieve success and maintain it over a period of years is another issue.

| For a real LLaMa any tactic that tends towards success should be avoided |

| LLaMas don't try "any tactic". That's the point. I guess that question is more for people over in the tactics forum.
Oh, and noone got the left-sided-sweeper to work properly. Although...depends what properly means. |

I bet you are having remorse now for your decision to ask Ian of all people about an idea.
