ok, no tipping here... (and i imagine many words spoken on the subject before this) but i found the scouting iffy at first..... and (i admit) i'm late to FM, but i have played later on in the game and figure you have to tell the scouts to go find what you want for them to be effective. Scouts are a bunch of card-playing, whiskey drinking wasters... you have to boss them about a bit.... only then they listen. Tell em what you want... or they turn up dung.
While i see problems with it sure, i prefer it to the days when they find that spanish FLC everytime or an Icelandic overated git. Its more realistic now. imo.
In 2013, with 3 scouts at Stockport in League 2, my three scouts are finding 3 players in total during their searches.
I am having to use the "player search" to find the type of player I want and then scout him.
The other way I am finding players is through media reports. Can I get a scout to find me a decent player? Hell no.
Pete (and everyone else out there with scouting problems), scouts dry up after 3 seasons at the same club--maybe a bit more. The scouting system only gets refreshed when you jump ship.
In my save scout brings a few players, but they're all U21 at least, mostly 16-18 y.o., while during the first season he brought in some 30+ guys.
I think it's a matter of reputation (we're now in L1). 45% of players he finds are not acceptable for their rep is low, 45% are not, 'coz our rep is low, and the rest of 10% a showed. When our rep will change (if it will, though), maybe things will change.
I've experienced much the same - but do they 'dry up'completely?
After two promotions I'm finding my scouts find players suitable for the lowest league but nothing fo rthe level I'm playing. I assumed this was to do with reputation.
