Season 1 Vauxhall Motors English Conference North
11W 9D 22L 42P -23GD 20th Place Relegated.
I wrote this as the season went on. Normally, I would not post this until three seasons played, but I will close with a question.
Inheirited a pretty crappy team. Decided to spend as much money on wages as possible until the board tells me to stop.
Taking the "throw lots of **** against the wall and see what sticks" attitude to signings as my one scout spends so much time away from home, his wife leaves him. Went 1-0-4
in preseason friendlies.. Beating Leek Town 2-0 was the highlight. We open in 6 days against Ashton Utd (another relegation battler)
at the Vauxhall Sports Ground. Im excited to see what happens. My starting ML is out three months with a hip injury.
We start the season by showing two troubling habits...giving up goals in the first three minutes to fall behind, and giving up goals in injury time to lose points. TIcked off the fans by praising my GK in the press to try and raise his morale as my back 4 are wobbly in the middle. Won them back by praising my FC.
Things began to turn around in November when we won back to back FA Cup qualifiers and then topped fellow relegation battlers Redditch 1-0. We dropped a match to Bradford PA but then won three in a row including a FA Trophy game and most impressively beat 2d place Lancaster at the Giant Axe 1-0.
Side Note--MUFC goes out in the 4th round of the FA CUp to Bournemouth!!!! No way I could ever quit this game now!!!!!! Quick! Save it!!!! Now THAT occurance is crash proof!!!!
The dawn of February sees the optomism of November completely gone. A 0-5 loss to Stafford Rangers ****ed me off so much I fined all 11 starters at least 1 wks wages. The two stiffs who only rated a 5 (the rater must have fallen asleep) were fined two weeks. The freaken stiffs thought I was unfair. FIVE FREAKEN NIL!!!!!!!! GRRRRR!
Leave it to a Scotsman!!!! I fine the entire team and Mr. Turnbull Hutton Esq., Chairman of Raith Rovers SD1 is impressed with my novel approach at perniciousness and offers me the job at relegation battler Raith. Its really tempting as I'm still steamed at my players. In the end, I decide that my players have tormented me, I will torment them back and stick around. A decision I'm sure I will rue.
Go Figure, as soon as Red Saturday (as my players called it due to the condition of their checking accounts) came and went the ship was righted and we played better. We go 4W 2D 2L through the end of March and actually move up to 17th place. The big blow came when my 19 goal SC gets hurt the end of March. With three games to go and 2 point clear of relegation (but in desparate shape on GD) Harrowgate comes calling. A 1-1 draw on an injury time cheapy costs us two much needed points. With my last two games against runnerup Moor Green and Champion Barrow, my doom is sealed and I suffer relegaion by a -3GD saving Worcester.
Now for a question....maybe no one will tell me, chalk it up to talking to other managers at the post season Manager's meeting...Should I resign now, or wait for the Axe.
