Season 2008/09 - Division Two

Board, fans, and bookies all expected me to go down. Staff thought I had a decent first team but no depth. Strengthened my defence for cheap, signed about a dozen freebies that I'd been watching for two years, and then tinkered with my formation to incorporate a second striker as I felt I may struggle for goals in this division.

Actually had a half decent start to the campaign this season, and was pleasantly surprised. Drew my first to games, and didn't lose till round 8. Hovered around the top of the table for the first quarter of the season, before going top and never looking like giving up my place. This included a streak of 12 wins in a row, (14 unbeaten). I had sown up a playoff place with 8 games to go, and clinched the league with 4 games still to play.
The media kept praising our performance, then telling us it wouldn't last.

Cups still suck arse, however, but at least I don't end up tiring my first team with too many cup games.

FA CUP - 2nd round
League Cup - 2nd round
LDV Sth - 1st round
FA Trophy - 5th round

League Results
Played: 42
Won: 30
Drew: 11
Lost: 5
GF: 93
GA: 24
GD: +69
Points: 101

It's on to League 1 next year, should be a damn site harder than this season. Have been furiously staving off bid after bid for my star players, but will have to let them go when the money is good enough. Also still need to get my wages down. Am quietly confident of staying up with the squad I have built, but not confident of attracting any decent players, especially with the wages my board allows me to offer. (only 6,750!) My players are starting to publicly suggest that their agents could find them better deals. TBH, my mum could find them better deals. Some of them are still getting paid under 100 quid. Ah, the joys of long contracts!

Board also improved my training facilities, however, moving into League 1 and my stadium still only holds 2500 people, and 140 of them get to sit down. Luxary.

Took me a minute to realise why you'd written this. Quality.

JGP: I was really worried about how I'd fair, but I've been pleasantly surprised by my team. Sitting fourth after 14 games. You just have to be shrewd as to who you sign, as you can't compete on wages and the like.
