Sounds like bragging, sorry. Meant to just be a statement of fact.

I know exactly what you mean, Michal. Wasn't taken as bragging at all.

Consecutive promotions at the lower levels isn't that unrealistic surely? Just of the top of my head I can think of 2 clubs who won the Conference and then Division 4 in recent years. One of them - Macclesfield got releagted after a few years in Division 3 but Doncaster are up near the top of it.

The gap between the bottom 2 league divisions and teh conference is not very big and good morale and good organisation can take you a long way. The Regional Conference is a new format but I think its reasonable to assume that the top sides in it will be near the top of the Conference National if they get promoted - look at Crawley and Aldershot.

If teams were going straight up the Championship I think it would be daft but as long as their comes a point where you can't take certain players any further I don't think its a problem.

I was thinking of starting in English league for the first time after CM00/01, but reading this... It is just not worth it

Macclesdfield was mid-90s I think. DOncaster was 2 years ago. Looks like Yeovil could get promoted now as well after a season consolidation. Until the mid-90s promotion into the Football League was by election so its not really fair to compare that period to now.

I'm with Michal, fact is once you, essentially, understand the way the program "thinks" it's fairly easy to work your way into a promotion straight away.

It's never going to be like playing another human, the game is a lot of trial and error.

A three season update here, after a bit away...bloody Portfolio

I wasn't going to mention my stint at Palarse, but subsequent happenings have pulled my along to an update.

Season 4 - 2007/8

In a moment of madness I accepted a job offer from Crystal Palace, who'd been relegated from the EPL into the Championship.

Financially not too badly off, I signed on, taking my AssMan with me and plundering 'arrogate for three of the best young prospects they had (insider knowledge is a wicked thing)

The season kind of ho'd and hum'd along, and we finished a creditable (crap) 17th place in the League. No-where in the Cups, a bit in the doldrums, to be honest.

After selling a couple of guys in November-time I poached another couple of players from Wetherby Road and they helped hoist us from bottom three to that 17th place.

Luckily the fans and Board seemed not too miffed with the position.

Season 5 - 2008/9

2nd place behind Brum was enough to see us into the EPL at the second attempt.

The TV money pretty much went on upgrading the stand by almost 7000 seats, we signed a couple of frees and bought two players from Liverpool ( ), and bombed out of the Cups before we really started.

'arrogate were relegated back to League 2, stupid Danish Manager

Season 6 - 2009/10

A spirited start to the season saw us in the top 6 and into the 3rd round of the League Cup...but on October 25th 'arrogate sacked the Bacon-poof, and I applied for the job.

Couldn't resist :o

November 11th, 2009, I was back at 'arrogate Town with a nice welcome from the Board, who were happy to have me back, but the Media reckoned I'd push nostalgia to one side for the rest of the season, given 'arrogate were lying bottom of the League.

Anyways, it's New Year 2010, I've been in charge for 11 games and we've played 9 League games (W6, D1, L2) and 1 Cup tie (a draw and a replay win), so we're about to play Swindon in the FA Cup 3rd round and we're homing in on a playoff spot (hopefully)

Rapid update:

I went from 'arrogate to Hearts when they asked me (and France, incidentally).

Immediately after that I went to Witton Albion, got into the Conference just as 'arrogate were relegated and employed England's current best central midfielder as manager.

They sacked him...and asked me...without me applying, so I'm back at 'arrogate in 2018

Nice cup o' coffee and a homebaked cookie at Betty's Tearoom, anyone?
