Default End of Contract Transfers

Howdy All - First post so please be nice

I have been playing CM for years and love the all singing all dancing FM2005 - I have always been into starting at the bottom and working my way up. Im currently at the helm of Nuneaton (Conf North), and after a pretty good first season made the playoffs .... unluckily i lost the semi and am just about to begin the 2nd Season in the same div !!!

At the end of the season i decided to go shopping - and with a huge!! budget of 22K i went for some good old contract expiring players. I agreed about 5 transfers and noticed that some of them had compensation to be payed - my plan was to cancel the transfer just before the contracts expired and hopefully take them when not attached for free .... However im now in £2M of debt after i couldnt cancel the transfers and the club just accepted the transfer compensation ....

How come i cant cancel transfers anymore ??
And am i breaking the LLM Code of Conduct getting players in this way ??

If you've used the player search screen then you've broken an LLM golden rule. Take a read of the LLM guidelines at the top of the forum page.

We only use scouts to find players. And we don't exploit unrealistic game loopholes ("features") to get them on the cheap.

If the players are found by scouts, you ain't breaking nowt.

If you don't have the money, the transfers will be cancelled by the board anyway.

Firstly i did find them using scouts / playing against them.

And i didnt have the money - yet they were signed and the club took the debt ....

It seems wierd !

Hmmm. if the compensation is greater than your transfer budget, what Fids said should hold. The board won't, in my experience, allow those transfers to go through.

You'll have to keep a closer eye on the info at the bottom of the transfer screen. It does clearly state at time of transfer how much compensation is due.

Ethically, deliberately tying up the player, cancelling at the last minute and signing when they get released is on shaky ground IMO. Either get pre-contracts and go through with them or wait until the player is released. The one exception, for me, is if the board inexplicably reduces your transfer budget between agreement and completion dates, meaning they cancel the transfer for lack of funds. (If you can see it coming though...)

Fair enough on the scouting. But why would you expect to be able to cancel a contract once you've signed it? Just because it doesn't start until the previous one expires doesn't mean it isn't legally binding.

As for the cash - that's up to your chairman I guess. You obviously didn't let him in on your plan.

You think

If this is in fact possible, then surely it must breach LLaMa guidelines

Strictly speaking, those are the zealot guidelines. However, in recent years the non-zealot llama has become a rare breed. Pretty much non-existant.

Wonder if I can find more words to put a "non-" in front of

stupid non-editing capability

I just realised something. It does make a difference whether it's what was previously known as the "find" screen or not. What I was thinking about was the the one near the scouting screen.

Some people have used that one to identify possible loan targets. I'd remove it if I could though. Might be time to live up to my moniker at the hut and look into it once more. This time with a firm grasp of xml.

The one in the side menu is easibily removed.

It's the one in the manager menu that caused me trouble, Mike.

I had managed to replace the link with the shortlist IIRC, but it crashed the game about 10% of the time.

But then, I don't know a thing about xml, so you might be more successful.
