I'm a Bulgarian and my country has never placed a team in the CL group stage, so I decided to turn history around by playing FM.
For those who aren't familiar with Bulgarian football, just don't bother reading all that... not healthy at all.
So I chose CSKA (Sofia) cause it's my favourite team. The finances were almost in the red for a CL team (475 000 Euro transfer budget) and the top players in Bulgaria aen't cheap at all (1,5-2 mln)... So I couldn't afford any class players but still managed to pull so tricks out of my sleeve and secure one or two youngsters.
CSKA starts in UEFA for the 2004/2005 season so I had 2 tasks:
- make'em champions
- get to the UEFA groups
I first beat a Macedonian team twice in UEFA 2nd Qual. Leg and then beat Partizan Beograd 3:1 away and after 1:1 at home, I put my team in a group with Buduchnost (SMG), Monaco, Atletico Madrid and Millwall. Not so bad really...
I beat 1:0 arch rivals Levski at home and finished 0:0 against Loko Plovdiv after missing a penalty and having a goal disallowed. So at the winter break CSKA and loko Plovdiv had 38 pionts each and everything was to be decided during the 2nd half of the season.
In UEFA groups I first lost 1:3 away to Monaco, then drew Atletico 1:1 (they scored the equalizer in the 89th minute) in BG, then beat 2:0 in Serbia and finally, in a direct clash for the 3rd place, CSKA - Millwall 2:0 (Rangelov - 2).
I'm going to continue my sstory tomorrow, it's time for bed now (12 o'clock in Bulgaria now)...
It's nice and all what you are trying to do, and Bulgaria is a nice country.
Nevertheless, this forum is about Lower League Management. We start out in the lowest available league of a given country. I am not sure, if Bulgaria has only the top division playable, but even if that is the case, CSKA are one of the top teams and thus not the type of experience we would want here.
Please have a read in the forum header and the sticky threads to find out what this place is about. If you feel you are wrong, just try the Story forum around the corner. I believe, the people there will appreciate your efforts more than the crop here will do.
I have read the header and still consider CSKA a small team to European standarts... The difference is huge... Like playing with a 1st League team in CL...
If the mods want they can delete the topic. I won't cry would I. Still I think playing with such a team with such tasks to perform is as demandim as an LLM.
Playing a small team by European standards matters not, as the vast majority of us (all?) play with teams who don't really see Europe as a goal for many, many seasons.
CSKA are simply too big. The name of the forum is LOWER LEAGUE Management for a reason. Are CSKA in a lower league? As was pointed out, the top league isn't usually acceptable, unless it's the only playable league, in which case we would take a bottom feeder, not a perennial power in the country.
