In previous versions i have found that when you play a long game (past 7/8 seasons), regens just dont seem to have the same ability as the real players, therefore good teams are often full of old players especially england which i can remember having an average of 33 or something.
Is this still an issue with 08? has anyone played really long on it yet?
Or is this just a case of not using a large database?
I didn't find this to be the case in FM07, my Sunderland team in 2020 was made up of incredible regens.
It does of course depent on how many leagues you have running and such like but I've never noticed a problem in past games. I've only done 3 seasons on '08 so far though so I'm not sure what it's like, hopefully it'll be just as good.
My problem in FM 07 was the opposite of in previous versions...regens from countries whose players I had chosen to include were superb, but regens from countries with leagues actually active were for the most part pretty crap and quite often didn't even come from the country of the club, nevermind being born locally

Did any of your regens come through the ranks because when i play as newcastle good players never come through
Nope, there were other quality regens that weren't just playing for me. I had one world class player come through the ranks (unfortunately Man Utd stole him from me early on) and three or four decent players.
This is pretty realistic seeing as Sunderland or Newcastle haven't really produced any world class players themselves over the last few years. The bulk of my top regens were found as youngsters by my scouts and I bought them and put them in my under 18 squad, again pretty much the kind of thing that can happen in real life.

The regens for my newecastle teams would not even match the quality of players like chopra and steven taylor. Every team is bound to get alteast one alright player through the ranks every couple of years. Newcastle never does on football manager

Realism is all very well, but this is a game too and getting nothing but naff regens through your youth system every single season is utterly boring. I've always wanted to build a team of players entirely from my youth team, but I'm lucky if I can even get 1 or 2 players through in 10 years!
