what are the advantages/disadvantages to doing this?

I don't do this very often, not unless it's someone like Kaka in they're in good form. From what I can tell some players think its good you sre identifying your opponents key threats, others think you should concentrate on your own team so I guess it's a case of doing it to motivate the right players.

Advantages:
If the player in question is young/inexperinced, he'll probebrly play badly during the match

Disadvantages:
If he's not, he may go out and try hard to prove you wrong if he has certain mental attributes (no idea which ones though, possibly high Pressure?) although if he's not espicially good, then that doesn't matter.
