Default My Success Story.

Okay I started a new game about 3 or so weeks ago with Liverpool. The transfer budget I was forced to start with was really low (I'm guessing 15.09M??). But anyway, I avoided using the money and thought that I just might have a good squad already. I found out I was completely wrong and ended up coming in 7th by the end of the year. I had had some very excruciating games where I would be literally struggling to teams like Aston Villa, who, in the end, almost always ran out winners. I was basically a team of Birmingham's calibre per se. But in that January transfer window, I managed to sign Steven Taylor from Newcastle, because it was a centre-back that I did desperately need. With not much else to look forward to, I started to just carelessly tinker with the squad in the July transfer window. My regular formation had looked like this:

----------------Reina------------------
Finnan-------Carra------Agger------Aurelio/Riise
Pennant------Alonso/Masch.---Gerrard---Babel
---------F.Torres-----D.Kuyt--------------

Just to say a few things about these players; first of all, the defense was obviously the weakest department. Attackers would just simply run through the defense and score. Most notable were Drogba, Ashley Young, Anelka, Keane, Berbatov, Rooney, Tevez, Ameobi, Owen, Utaka and many more. Aurelio, to me, was much better than Riise - who almost always gave away the ball. But he was injury prone, and was occasionally side-lined for weeks on end. In midfield, I had very low morale players (Pennant, Babel) who would always crack under pressure when I stated a certain thing to the media. During matches, they would come back from half-time team talks with no apparent or suspeceted improvement in determination. In attack, I don't want to even begin to comment about how useless the players were, because that would just fill up this entire page. But what I will say is what they were actually good for: nothing. An example would be: Kuyt is off on a breakaway and on a one-on-one with the opposing 'keeper. After running down half the pitch, and closing in on goal, he would either do two things: gracefully toss the ball into the hands of the 'keeper, or just blast it wide. Or more annoyingly, take the odd 35 yard shot and waste the chance.

So as I was saying, with no hope of improving this team, no matter what I did, I did decide to do something that seemed a bit risky to me, but it ended up being not so. I had improved a lot of players through that season, such as Sissoko, Lucas, and a mid-season signing of a young Finnish AZ Alkmaar defender, Joona Toivio, who was mainly taught by Hyypia all season. Sissoko, who was dubbed just a decent player when I started the game, was now a quality player and the same for Lucas. Lucas should now, in my squad at least, be regarded as a key member of the first-team squad; no doubt he will soon overtake the aging, but still versatile Gerrard.

I sold many players at the club, namely Alonso, Riise, Aurelio, Pennant, and Agger. Before rushing into any signings, I racked up a budget worth 77M alone from those players. With the budget the board had given me, around 28.99M, I had spent half of the money on Taylor’s mid-season deal with Newcastle. But with now well over 80M in the bank, I was prepared to splash the cash on promising players. As the transfer window came to an end, I managed signing Taye Taiwo, a LB/WB who played for Olympique de Marseille, wonder kid Sergio Aguero from Atletico Madrid, and for my right midfield problem, Mario Santana from Napoli. A couple of those signings were last minute ones because of stubborn Martin Jol and S.G Eriksson demanding exorbitant prices which did not allow me to sign Lennon and Richards. So with this squad, which now looked like this:

------------------Reina------------------
--Arbeloa----Carra----Taylor---------Taiwo
-------------------Mascherano/Lucas----------------
---------------------Gerrard--------------------------
Santana-------------------------------------Aguero----
------------------Torres-----Kuyt---------------------

I managed to, almost flawlessly, win the premiership, reach the finals of the League Cup, and the semi-finals of the FA Cup.

D. Kuyt managed to score 38 goals, thus taking the Golden Boot.
Santana took most assists of the year.
Aguero was named English Player of the year, with Kuyt in second and Santana in the third.
Six members of the squad were in the premiership Best Eleven.
I managed to take Coach of the year.
And I managed to break several club records things like most goals in a game, etc.

So after that, I go into my second season, having sold Sissoko, and bringing in Anton Ferdinand and Micah Richards and K. Boulahrouz on a free transfer.

I now begin my third season.

Well I was just saying that although it is his story, if we all posted a commentary on our game as we go the forum would be more clogged than it already is! Sorry for offending, my bad!

Ever considered writing in the FM Story forum? you'd have to expand on it a bit, and make it more fictional, but you could do a decent job.
