I often leave my computer for a couple of minutes, sometimes hours, without turning anything off and it would just be nice to know that the game is freshly saved before starting playing again.
A simple function that recognizes when the game has been idle for a couple of minutes triggers a save. Of course it would also have to recognize if the game already is saved so it doesn't keep saving the same thing every two minutes.
Just a thought I had, shouldn't be very difficult to implement I would imagine.

johandenver - I think this would be a fantastic function that could be added. I wonder whether SI would consider adding this. It would minimize the loss of a few/lot of games if something goes wrong with your game without saving.
si have already added a save function to limit the amount of games lost if somethign goes wrong. it's called auto saving. which you can set to be at different intervals. probably somethign like 1 week, 2weeks or a month.
you also havethe rolling save function that saves the game on multiple files.
i'm not too keen on the idea here as the problem of losing matches/having to play games again due to whatever is already catered for.
postal postie:
I know of all the different save-functions that are in FM already but this would not really impact anything in my view.
Also, it could well be an option that you could switch on or off.
I don't think I understand your point, do you mean the risk of damaging your savegame would be greater with an "save-while-idle" function?

no. i'm merely saying why add something when there are already things within the game that do the same thing?
you set it to save every 1 week then it saves every 1 game week.
of course it wont save when its idling on the same day for 10 hours but then there really isn't any need to.
It wouldnt work anyway due to the size of the save game files FM uses.
Tasks that typically happen when an application or the OS is idle are ones that can be either performed quickly in a second (Eg Autosave/Autorecover in Word), or ones that be be interupted halfway through and then returned to once the system is idle again (Eg Diskeeper server defrags).
In FMs case neither of these scenarios apply as the user would either be waiting for the save to finish or stopping it once they decide to dip into the game again.

well no - it would be a normal save in terms of being interruptible - it would just be a setting like: "If FM is inactive for x mins, perform a save" - it just protects you if you leave without switching off or saving, for example if the power goes while you are away
I think you are thinking of regular saves while inavtive? Which of course you are right there is no need to do
