It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default The unbeatable Colchester? AI domination

Howdy folks.

I have a saved game with Accrington Stanley, currently 6th in the PL, beaten Chelsea, ManU, Liverpool and Arsenal recently. However I seem to be having trouble with smaller teams. I beat Northampton 1-0 away and tied with Colchester 1-1. I now have the games saved at the Colchester rematch (FA cup)

I have lost and reloaded the game 7 times now. I am not cheating I couldnt care less if I won. I am trying to find a good tactic though that will dominate smaller teams.

My scout says they play defensive and counter attack, well that seems like a crock of s^%$ as they seem to be constantly attacking to me. Does the scout even work???

Results.
2-0
2-1
3-0
3-0
2-0
1-1
3-0

I have tried different players..

In 50% of the games I had more shots than Colchester

In NONE of the games did I have more shots on target!!

Colchester scored off their first shot in 3 of the games and scored on their first 2 shots twice!!!!!

I won possesion in over 50% of the games.

I have tried around 4 different tactics. 4-4-2 normal and diamond, 4-1-4-1 and a 3-4-1-2

I have tried many many different settings. plyaing defensive, playing attacking, ROO and ROT, reverse mentalities (D=20 F=1) etc etc.

I have played slow and fast tempos, narrow and wide.

I have brought this to your attention as I would like to see if anyone has before met an unbeatable smaller team who just thrash you in front of the net and honestly I would love to see a tactic convincingly win this game. Standard thinking dictates that one should probably play slow and short vs a defensive CA team however that has not worked. I have tried the opposite too as they seem to be attacking a lot but defensive with a fast wide CA style has also been convincingly defeated.

Any ideas on beating this remarkably accurate shooting side? AI BS?

I had a similar problem.
Newly promoted with Leeds alongside West Brom.
I managed pretty well in EPL until the away game to West Brom. Eager to win i only got an equal - so i retried... about 5 times also using various tactics.

I managed to beat them 3-0 after resetting my player instructions to the game positional-presets (in tactics > player instructions > set to) the major difference was in how much my fullbacks got in front and the crossing from them, and a second notable difference was to my strikers in the long shots and through ball area - setting them to rarely.

Now i remember that while in Championship i had the similar thing with West Brom am then i changed my tactics to play with a Target Man and supplying him to head. I had Cresswell and Flo in front back then. They managed to get me more goals that i leaked in...

Awesome, I like the fact that you did a lot of reasearch! well enough brown nosing...

I would try the target man aswell, you should have a striker who can outjump their goalie on a trampoline Seriously a targetman might be what you need, I get the feeling they are pressing you hard and a targetman is a good idea then.

tbh I think the game has a sort of bad teams go far in cups function And this is realistic since a bad team concentrating on the cup can focus everything on it while a good team fights for promotion/honours. But loosing 7 times seem extreme...

Does your scout say defensive counter attacking possession football? If he does I might say I always have trouble against this somehow they snag the ball infuriates my players and then hits me in the arse when I'm looking for my cup of tea.

I have played 4 more games

lost 3-0 with a 4-1-4-1 attacking.

Downloaded the MUFC 94 tactics package for a test. Played 3 games.

Won 1-0 finally a win! The cautious version of this tactic seemed to shutdown their scoring pretty well.

1-1 tie. Pretty much outplayed them for like the 9th game but they still snuck a tie.

3-1 Win. Finally a good win. Outshot them by a lot, got a fair number finally on target. 1 was a freekick though and one an own goal LOL so really maybe I just got lucky.

The MUFC 94 tactic seems quite solid defensively though, might have to steal a few ideas from it for my 4-4-2 diamond.

Will keep testing, still not 1 dominant win in 11 games now. Got pretty lucky in my 2 wins however the new tactic does seem a bit better.

I assume you are away and have a dominant team?

If so could I suggest you use opposition instructions to exploit their weaknesses. Force wingers and FBs onto the wrong foot, close down all their defenders and slower midfielders and attackers. Hard tackle any weakling or coward. If they have a dominant TM hard tackle and close him down.

Would be interested in seeing if that works, with any of the tactics you have chosen.

Just to finish this old thread of mine off I ended up very narrowly defeating Colchester (who were 19th in L1) 1-0. I played a good 12 games against them and beat them a couple of times but not many...

They were playing way above themselves thats for sure, especially considering their league form (19th)

I really believe as Timpino suggests that this was some kind of 'dream cup run' scenario in which case a small team on a cup roll is very hard to beat?

Wonder if anyone else has had this problem? They were just lethal in front of net everytime I played them, scoring off a good 60% + on all their shots.

Is there such a thing as a AI biased LL team super cup run?
