To be honest I no longer stay in the medium section and for the first 2/3 of the season I have my training a couple of notches into 'heavy'. I then knock it down for the last 3rd of the season to about the middle of medium.
I've found that by doing this I've suffered no more injuries than I would with less heavy training schedules and with a little squad rotation my team is still performing very well. Plus attributes are increasing at a more satisfactory rate than when I was using lighter training.
It might not work for everyone but it's working for me.
