From your posts Imade the conclusions:
1 If I have good wingers-play wider
2 In more attacking formations, usually at home-play wider.
3 Away or against better teams, if i'm playing on counter-attack then narrow
I'm not sure about first one.Does width depends of tempo?
Sorry for english,I'm from Moldova.

| 1. It helps I suppose, so yes.
2. Yes
3. Yes.
4. Tempo....
I think it does, shorter passing suits a slower tempo and the more direct your passing is the faster the tempo should be. Basically, think about how teams play 'IRL', for example Spanish teams such as Barcelona play a short passing game, and its generally a slow and patient style. Contrast that with a team such as Bolton where its get the ball forward quickly and directly....
Where you have the defensive line can also have an effect, as it dictates the 'size' of the pitch. High line squeezes the play up towards the opposition, deep line creates a more spread out and stretched park....
hope that helps?

Let me say something from my experience: the link between width/passiing style is IRRELEVANT.
I play short, quick and wide with a lot of success. I do not change my width even if I´m defending a lead. Instead of that, I use to tweak the tempo and closing down instructions and that´s it.

| And there we have another conflicting theory! I must admit, referrring to my Barcelona example earlier in the topic, they do play wide expansive football - but with short passing... Perhaps its dependent on the quality of player at your disposal, and maybe the tactics of your opposition as well?
