I am trying to develop a formation a bit like how man utd play currently - with 2 DM's who turn into normal midfielders when we have the ball,

im trying to use wayne rooney as an AM but i cannot get him scoring goals, has anyone used him as an AM (with just 1 target man infront of him) can you tell me what instructions he had.

also if anyone has used a formation like this

not too sure mate but i would have farrows on the dm's and make rooney targetman with run onto ball or ball to feet on, and you might wanna consider playing mr and ml amr and aml, only a suggestion though

I deployed Rooney in that role for a season, but behind two forwards.

He's didn't bang them in as much as in he did in my 4-4-2 system. But straight away I noticed how much he was on the ball just behind the opponents midfield, free to run at the defence with two options ahead. Less goals but more influence in the overall game.

Run w/ball, forward runs, through balls, closing down - often
Passing mixed, but edging towards the short game.
But no free role.

I have used him as a MC with farrow, with tactical instructions of an AMC. He played magnificent and better than any other AMCs I got (including van der vaart, raul garcia and sneijder, who does very well on that position). In fact he played so well, that when my other strikers were all fit (vela, higuain, jo, smith) I always played him there, especially in important games. He did not let me down once. Great vision, passing, long shots etc.

sorry, misread the initial information... I have only used him in a 442, so with 2 strikers ahead of him.

but since his running with the ball is outstanding, I would not see why he could not fill in the AMC slot (forward runs, run with ball, through balls, long shots)
