My team missing chances, their team scores each time WHY??! Post #51 | | Junior Member

I am not suffering this problem whatsoever - I don't think I have come across a single MoM performance from a keeper (not my own) during my whole 4-year career at present.
I think the problem is not about creating chances, but creating good chances. First off, have your strikers got good composure, since this stat is terribly important in fashioning actual chances. And secondly, are the opposition parking a bus in their area, forcing your players to take snapshots which are easy to save for the goalie?
If so, you need to start games, or play portions of matches in a counter-attacking, and deep manner. This will draw out the opposition as they sniff out a goal, and when you have brought them out enough, attack them again and you'll be far more likely to score. Of course, there will be some teams who are that unlikely to win that they won't even attack you when you go deep, but there are only ever usually 1 or 2 of these teams in each league.
Before anybody comes back saying "listen mate, look at my screenies I have evidence, blah blah blah", please actually try the above advice for a season or so, and see if you generally improve in front of goal. Like I said, I am currently enjoying a hugely successful career following these very steps, and have been the team to score the most goals every season.

| That's an interesting idea. Hadn't thought of that. Do you really find that opponents that start off defensively will become more aggressive as the match goes on if you start off playing defensively?

yea i've noticed everal games where my trikers just would not score. on the occasions that i do win, i usually get praised by a player for the half time team talk. if tactics aren't floating your boat, perhaps a stern team talk can get them going.

Oh, brother. Where do I start.
I appreciate the comments from jimbowan and Chand, but I don't really need any more statistics or anything from you. If you're seeing the patterns yourselves, then great - it at least proves that something somewhere was going in the right direction.
Some questions answered: The 'keeper plays a blinder...
Very often they don't. A high rating and a good performance, unfortunately, in Football Manager are not the same thing.
The match engine never differentiates between an awesome save and a bobbling no-hoper. Therefore, everytime the goalkeeper touches the ball after a shot it gets brownie points. A goalkeeper can play an 8 or 9 and have only made a couple of good saves - your keeper can do the same, but because he faces fewer shots he gets a lower rating. "Your analysis shows nothing in relation to what people are talking about..."
Disagree. Although my games happened to be pretty even, my findings found, explicitly:
All teams usually scored within five shots on target; the games where I had most shots I seemed to score fewest (and, incidently, the same goes for the AI); superkeepers seemed absent from my games.
Now, I will grant you that my analysis did not include enough one-sided games on my end to really test out whether the AI was "evening it out". However, I did point out that I was looking for the key signs I noticed in my Foligno game in my current Arsenal save (where I am totally dominating games) and I'm still not seeing the signs of the "superkeeper". I make plenty of quality chances...
No, you don't. Quite clearly, you don't. A one-on-one, very rarely, is a true one-on-one in this game. More often than not the striker is under pressure, the ball is on the wrong side or a whole host of things. The fact is, that if your strikers regularly miss one-on-ones (which seems to happen for all of us) you shouldn't have a tactic that constantly makes one-on-ones.
A true sitter one-on-one will come from a through ball played behind the defensive line where the striker will intercept (around 25-30 yards from goal) and will proceed, yards away from anyone towards the goal keeper, with the ball under control. I see this very rarely on FM. Just because a guy is clear of the defence with the ball at his feet does not make it an easy chance.
On the most simple game level, you should not have a tactic which is designed, deliberately or by chance, to create one-on-one chances. You should be making a host of different chances, from crosses, through balls, runs and passing moves. If you keep doing the same thing, it becomes repetative. Besides, you're clearly not playing to the strengths of your players if they keep missing the same kind of chances.
Again, I challenge people to upload pkms of "superkeeper" games so that I can see what you mean. I still don't see any. This is your perfect chance to prove me wrong. Take it.
Let's look at the screens in more detail... Ste1978 - QPR vs Leeds
4 shots out of 11 on target? That's pitiful. Clearly something needs to be done there. One suggestion would be to look at your pass completion rate which seems rather low. QPR had far more possession and got 80% of their shots on target. That makes me think they got 5 good shots off. How many did you get? Two at most? The type of chances you're creating are not the sorts of ones your team can convert. Change it. andysafc - Sjoke vs Sunderland
A bit better shots wise, and you can genuinely feel a bit agrieved to only score one. Your pass completion rate was fair, though you could do with winning a few more headers. Stoke also had a poor shot completion rate. However, your ratings seem to suggest that the side just wasn't performing to standard.
Of all the screenies, you have the most right to feel agrieved. However, I am sure that not all of your "cheat" losses are as poor as this one. You were very unlucky, but **** happens.
Of course, I'll repeat it again - a much better analysis could be made if people would just upload their pkms...

| Completely disagree. I've had many of those 'true' one on ones that you talk about. Alot not only from 30 yards from goal, some others from the half way line. And one even from the edge of my own box (oh what a goal that would have been). They either one , run the ball to the edge of the box , stop , and then for some reason , run away from goal at a 90 degree angle , and then get the ball tackled off then.
Or the other case , rather than round the goalie , which most of time seems like a pretty easy option (considering hes almost stopped , id assume he has the ball on control) and then proceed to smash it over the bar.
And one of the things that I back this whole thread up with , is the lack of consistancy. We create barrel loads of one on ones , and other chances taboot , and not score. And they score with a freeky 40 yarder , or ones of those magical crosses that beat both of your 6ft 5 defenders , and the forward magically out jumps them and sends the ball into the back of the next. But we cannot convert the same chances. I agree with alot of the testamoaines in this thread , there is something wrong with the balance of goals in this game. Sure sometimes teams can't hit a barn door (arsenal in the champions league this season) but not every game.
