Mega test of formation tweaks, 10 games test for each tweak to see what happens
I have decided to do a few tests in order to understand how the game works and hopefully educate myself a little bit to become a little more tactically astute.
Even though I have read many threads about short/long passing, width, fast/slow tempo, I sometimes get baffled by it so I thought I would create a simple experiment.
My idea is to play 10 games against the same team in the same circumstances, no subs, same formation, and no tweaks and see what results I get. Then I will try the same with different tweaks to the formation and see what results I get.
First off, I will try the basic 4-4-2 Normal formation that is a standard formation and see what happens for 10 games. I will play a game, then without saving I will go back into the game and play the same game again. It will be interesting to see the variation of results I will get.
My opponents for this test are Derby.
I am playing at home (may do an away test later)

Seeing as this game was one I should have one, I see with the formation I use I had a 50% chance of winning, a 40% chance of drawing & a 10% chance of losing.
I will now do the same test but focus on mentality.
I will keep the 4-4-2 Normal and change the global mentality slider to the first line of attacking and see what happens. I notice I did not score more than w goals in any of the games so it will be interesting to see the results.
Another thing I notice was that I averaged only about 10 shots on goal, I wonder if the mentality change will produce more shots.

Very interesting experiment. I like the fact you're doing 10 tests of each to give a good average. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on this one to see what effect the changes have. Keep the updates coming.

Just altering the global mentality into attack I notice I have potential to score more goals, although this might have got me a good win, there is still only a 50% chance of winning the game and an even greater chance I could lose.
Strangely I notice that I am not having as many shots on average as I did in the first 10 games, but I seemingly must be getting better chances as in some games I have score 3, 4 goals.
Next I am going to keep everything as it is but change the GK instructions to a more common sense approach and see how I fair over the next 10 games.
If anyone else has noticed anything from the match stats please feel free to contribute.

Another update with the third tweaked formation with the modified GK settings.
Won 3
lost 7
drawn 0
0-1 loss
4-3 win
4-0 win
3-0 win
0-1 loss
1-2 loss
0-2 loss
1-2 loss
0-2 loss
0-2 loss
Amazing what that simple GK change has made! I am going to have to have a think about his settings. It seems to me the GK setting are paramount to a good tactic.
Could be that some people have a great tactic but do not have the GK settings spot on maybe.
