my team started, benevento (serie c2/c i think) started off well winning their first four matches but lost in the fifth game and in the following five games we won 1, drew 3 and lost another. the key to most of these were missing clear cut chances and giving possesion away in midfield/defence leading to scoring oppurtunities that were usually scored by the opposition. i was wonderin what area of my tactic i would have to tweak for this to be fixed(if any) such as passing, closing down etc? any help appreciated.
I have a Premier League team with world class players in every position, but they still contrive to behave like a bunch of sloths when the CPU feels it needs to score a goal.
I have turned my computer off at the wall a couple of times after seeing my players repeatedly give stupid passes to opposition strikers inside their own box, then dally on the rebound and get tackled before they eventually concede an own goal.
It's nothing to do with the tactical settings or the players, it's the match engine.
Firstly it's not a case of the AI decides it feels like scoring.
You've got to remember that players make mistakes, and even the best players in the world, managed by the most incredible tactician, will make errors. I've seen plenty of occasions this season, when Man Utd have sloppily passed to the opposition, or over hit a pass into touch, etc...
That said, there are things that can be done to cut this out. Look at your players stats, specifically looking at things like Decisions, Concentration, Positioning, Composure, etc...
If you've told a player to play short passes, and he has a poor decision making attribute, he might choose the wrong pass, especially if he's being put under pressure (which is where composure comes in). If you're players aren't the greatest at passing (especially defenders), then you might want to set their passing to long, just to get rid of the ball.
If you've got a defender with poor positioning, but high tackling and marking, you might be best advised to get them to man mark a player. If a defender with poor positioning stands off a player, he is more likely to take up a position whereby he actually gives the striker an opportunity.
Concentration, could result in players switching off. If you've got defensive minded players with poor concentration, then mistakes will happen - they'll be slower to react, and possibly give the opposition a chance to pounce.
Finally, you've got to remember the element of luck. Teams go through purple patches, and also they have dips in form. Sometimes you can be the best team, and lose, and sometimes this happens regularly (one defeat after missing loads of chances, could affect the strikers confidence. They miss their first chance of the next match and they automatically get that "here we go again feeling"). Look at Arsenal. Recently they've been dominating teams - creating a ridiculous amount of chances - yet they still managed to lose to Everton and West Ham. Their victory against Bolton didn't represent their domination (and had the referee punished Arsenal for a handball, they might have not won).
I think the one of the key element in FM is morale. If I score own goals, the player who score it have slight concern, poor morale or is too much pressure on him.Your defenders better play direct to not make mistakes. What about your strikers, play with 2-3 strikers all season then they'll began to score do not rotate them too often.Tell me what is your strikers morale?
