I am playing first season with villa. I have this problem that often I will lead 1-0 or 2-0, but in the end the opposition will catch up or even win. I think I have tried everything, but what do you do when you are 1-0 or 2-0 up? Defend, attack, leave everything?
Happened again. 2-0 up at half time against shef. utd. They are reduced to ten men. Around 55 mins, they score, my team panic, they score again and we draw
there are a few different things that could've happened;
1) you nick one or two lucky goals and aren't playing well so that's why you blow it
2) they get lucky
if you are winning 1-0 against man utd and you are playing well, keep it the same, the game normally evens things out, like if you deserve to win and you draw and the next game you get cained but draw 0-0, well that's my view anyhow
This is quite frustrating, whenever u are controlling the game, and winning and suddenly the opposition starts playing so much better and they can get away with a draw.
Normally, I change the Mentality to Normal, start playing a slow possession game, high timewasting and counter attack on. I also play a deep D-line and if the opponent starts to play 424, I get my full backs barrows to counter it.
Thanks for the help. By the way, I missed out on the champions league spots in the last five games, ending 7th. At the moment, even my real life team (OB Odense) is conceding in the last part of games. AARGH!

Hope this helps.
Pay close attention to any formation/mentality changes of your opponent and also analyze the substitutes your opponent makes. The computer may replace a defensive minded midfielder or a full back for a wing back or a more attacking minded midfielder.
In my experience, when the computer starts playing better, he starts to control the ball more in the midfield. It may be worth substituting a forward for a midfielder in this case in order to rebalance the battle in the midfield. Barrows for your fullbacks shouldn't be necessary unless opposition forwards are streaking down to the bylines and kicking up crosses frequently. When you get ahead comfortably (2-0), you may simply want to prevent your fullbacks from making forward runs. That should a sufficient adjustment for them in most cases.
When the opposition is down a goal or two, in the last 10 minutes they often change formation - i suggest looking at 'formations' while the match is running - the opposition AI often tries several formations, sometimes, bizzarley changing every few seconds - often playing 4 up front
To counter this, if your forward players are sharing the same mentality - set it to defensive and select counter-attack on
I use this technique with my tactic and it seems to lock out teams in the last ten minutes
Crazy's Kill Game tactic is the best I have used... I very rarely conceed in the last 20 or so minutes if I use it. I tend to use it only when the opponents change to 4-2-4 though just because I like to keep attacking until I need to defend.
Using the advice in this forum, I think I've attained a pretty firm grasp of tactics on FM 06-07. This is the one area where I also have trouble.
The last 10 mins or so of a close game, I always seem to be riding my luck. I do what you'd expect. If I think I need to play defensively, I turn forward runs off for my FBs, put them on defensive mentality, sub in a DM for a striker, turn to direct passing, and counter attack with wingers running up the wrings and a single target man. Doesn't seem to solve the problem.
Other times, I have more faith in my ability to punish the AI for being overly aggressive. So I flood the opposition, likewise, and wager I'm more likely to score a goal than they are. Generally, I'm still more likely to concede for whatever reason.
But when I'm a goal down? Trying the same thing doesn't seem to work. I don't even seem to generate chances. I can't see that I'm doing anything differently than the computer.
I feel like I'm a better tactician than the AI for about 80 mins. The last 10? Completely outclassed.
