Anyone know how to set your fullbacks up so they don't go running the wrong way all the time and actually stay goalside of an attacker?
If the opposition winger has the ball and is moving i n c r e d i b l y s l o w l y down the wing, I find my fullbacks (who have not been instructed to close down quickly) will go running forwards to close the winger down, BUT will end up just running past them on the side, leaving said winger to continue his i n c r e d i b l y s l o w journey towards my byline. Then my fullback and defensive midfielder (who's come over to help out) will pretty much just walk next to the winger, allowing him to continue on his merry way, without getting back goalside.
It's not restricted to fullbacks - my wingers don't bother getting goalside either, but that's not so much of a problem as it's so far up the pitch.
Standing goalside of an attacker is a pretty basic and fundamental skill you learn as a footballer. Surely Premiership players should have grasped this concept in the game. It's just physics - you get yourself in between the attacker and where he wants to go. Easy.
If the attacker is too quick and gets in behind, or you show him inside and he hurts you that way, then I can accept that. But to see my fullback just WALKING along behind and to the side of a winger is massively annoying.
Anyone got any tips to stop this before my head explodes?
