2009/2010

Wages were still too high, and the chairman started moaning about it. That said, I decided to let my two top earners (5,5k defensive midfielder and the 7,7k super-striker) go. Not that I'd mind the dreaded Spanish striker. He went on to score loads this season again, but he's a primadonna, and I hate him. Which is reason enough.

So, his contract was going to expire at the end of the season, and I did not extend it. (I didn't have the wages for him anyway). He requested to be transfer listed at the start of the season, and signed for Wolves as soon as he could. Unthankful bastard, I was so good to him!

The midfielder left for Blackpool for 800k. Good deal there. Funnily, the replacement guy for him (young Spaniard who only got a few games so far) did well, and also wanted loads of money for a new contract (about to expire as well). I decided to wait and see how he develops, and 4 weeks later he demanded double than what he wanted a month ago. Wtf?

Arsenal seemed to have noticed that, and offered me a generous sum of 0 pounds for him. Yeah, I bet Arsenal don't have cash to spend, huh?
I negotiated the deal and wanted 500k. They agreed (I had not expected that ), and I was two midfielders short. I reinvested 450k of all the money I got for two new midfielders (one for 440k, one for 8k), both being pretty young and not too costly in wages, and we still went strong.

6 weeks before season's end, our star winger (avg rating 8.31, 10 goals) got injured. Damn!
Of course we slided downwards in the table and ended up 5th. Only playoffs

We eliminated Tranmere 2-0 and 0-0 and marched into the finals. Blackpool awaited us there, and with a great game of their latest signing, some 800k midfielder from Millwall, we lost 2-3. Bad Karma, huh?

So, another year in Div2 awaits. Board and supporters are delighted though.

Sorry, with Div2 I meant League 1. Stupid naming conventions there.

Nah, they don't. They just are sorta like a mirage. They let you see the promised land of the higher division, you just never seem to get there.

2010/2011

Media prediction: Millwall win the league this year. Stupid me made the mistake of believing the media, and after 15 games I found my team sitting in a safe position. 17th, that is. That is when I decided to change things.

Decided to sell my 8.34 avg rating left winger for 750k. The money went into a couple of new hard-working wingers who could cross the ball (dribbling was now declared forbidden at The Den ), and a fitting heading-monster-striker for up front. Slowly, things improved.

Final position: 7th. Missed the playoff spot by 1 point.
The fans seem to like my approach, they're very satisfied. Maybe more luck the next season.

Man, I'm tired. It's 2:36, I've been playing FM all day long, but I have to admit, it got me hooked. You know it - the usual "one game only", and suddenly the season's over.

Anyway:
2011/2012

Finished 4th, kicked arch rivals West Ham's butts in the playoff semis (2-0 at The Den and 1-0 at Hammer's place) and after some good laughing we went on and also beat Tranmere in the finals, who were weakened by an early right hook to one of my player's chin.

So, Championship football for Millwall in the next league. Finally. As some sweet addon, we won the suck-ass Vans Trophy.

On the other side, this season was full of noticable events.

My goalie scored a goal from 95 yards away.

European player of the year is some Italian regen who has exactly the name of a Toyota Formula 1 driver.

Got booted in the FA Cup by Conference National side Halifax in the 1st round. Halifax then went on and beat Premiership sides Arsenal (3rd round) and Middlesborough (4th round) just to lose against Reading in the 5th.

Good season, and lots of fun. 01/02 definitely is forgotten for me now, this game is enjoyable like hell.
