Clube Desportivo de Beja, Portugal D2B South 06-07
It may be a small squad I have here, but it appears to possess some quality. We start well in the league, and are almost halfway to survival after the first 8 games or so  We add a couple of free transfers, and line up the heir apparent to our ageing hotshot strikers for the transfer window. Things go a bit awry mid-season, when our strikers have droughts and our defensive lack of depth is exposed. The low point is a 5-1 loss at Atletico in which we have 4 players sent off for two yellow cards (the team get 12 in total). Amazingly, we were 4-0 down before any of the dismissals We put things back together, including a thumping win over the leaders during the run-in, to hold an upper mid-table spot. I'm pleased with that effort. We have signed a good number of quality players to add depth to the squad, and were never in trouble, 8th being our lowest position all year.

D2BS: 8th; P38 W17 D9 L12 F69 A48 Pts60
Cup: Another penalty shootout victory (I haven't won a cup game in normal time yet) gives us a 3rd round tie away at Second Division Oliveirense, who are too big to expect a win but not big enough to get a good payday We go out, 2-0, watched by just 1253 people.

Next season's transfer funds (5k) are already spent on three players I lined up for the July window (I wish you could sign the players on the current budget before the board change it). Much needed defensive reinforcement is on its way I'm hoping for improvement on our decent perfomance this season...

Clube Desportivo de Beja, Portugal D2B South 07-08 MID-SEASON
Improvement? Sadly not. We encounter the "your players turn to crap and tactics go pear shaped after installing the patch" issue, including a failure to beat a side playing with 8 men for the final third of the match.

I am updating midseason as I have left Beja. The aquaplaning par excellence I encountered was beginning to wear me down, but more importantly, the fat lady was doing scales not far from centre stage. We failed to win a single league match up to January , including a run of 7 league games in which we also failed to score (we had a run of 699 minutes in total). My final record at Beja was:

D2BS: 20th (dead last) ; P20 W0 D7 L13 F9 A43 Pts7
Cup: I finally win a cup match in normal time. We struggle past a non-league team at home, 1-0 with an 85th minute goal (only our second shot on target) to get through the second round. Non-league opposition are vanquished in the third round too, before Vit. Setubal of the Superleague end our run in the 5th round.

So, having made up my mind to have time to settle into a new job for the new season, unlike last time I was relegated, I applied for a job. I was offered the post 2 days later. My new team is 16th in D2B North, one point ahead of safety, so I may be doing the two relegations in one season trick. :o
My next update will be as manager of Associação Desportiva de Fafe
